mixed feelings

Hi everyone,
I'm dealing with a big problem and can't talk to many people about it.
It's like this: I'm already a mom of two kids, one is 10 and the other is 8. I've had a really hard time getting pregnant.
Now here's the thing:
I've been with my new boyfriend for almost two months, and last week I found out I'm pregnant.
This was a huge shock for both of us. We've only been together for such a short time, and my chances of having kids are very low now, but still, I'm pregnant.
Because our relationship is so new, he doesn't want the baby. He wants us to choose to have an abortion.
I was still in shock at the time, didn't know what was happening to me, and he said that he's right – it's too soon in the relationship, especially since I was told that I wouldn't be able to have kids or would have a very hard time getting pregnant in the coming years.
Next Thursday I have an ultrasound and a consultation with the gynecologist about what we want to do.
I'm 6 weeks pregnant today.
But I have these feelings inside me that I want to keep this baby. I just can't go through with an abortion; it's just not possible. He himself is against abortions, but he says it's too soon in the relationship.
He keeps saying that.
I'd love to shout out that I'm pregnant, but because of him, I can't feel happy about it.
I'm completely overwhelmed and find it so hard. I really don't want to lose him, not at all, but I also don't want to lose this baby.

    Hi Roos,

Wow, what a story, girl... I've never experienced anything like this, so I've never had to deal with it myself. Listen closely to your own feelings; I think that's the most important thing. I don't know how feasible it is, but maybe it's still a good idea to at least talk about your feelings with him...? I can imagine that's difficult, but whatever choice you make, I think it's important to express your feelings. Otherwise, it'll just build up inside.

I wish you all the strength from the bottom of my heart, trust your own feelings...

    Lots of love!

Hi Roos, wow, your story is quite intense. I totally get where you're coming from, but try to see it this way: it's actually special, especially since you mentioned you don't get pregnant easily. So this is how it was meant to be. A baby is such a beautiful gift; if I were you, I'd never consider having an abortion for any reason. It's growing inside your belly and is already a part of you—it belongs to you completely now, even though it's still so new.

Look, when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, my husband also said it didn't work out. He was, after all, married and had a son.
He was supposed to tell her about us, he said, but by accident I got pregnant with our oldest daughter.
But he asked me to have it aborted.
I said you can go back to your family and stop with me. You don't need to tell your wife about us and get a divorce; just stay there. I am definitely keeping this baby. No one on my head is thinking about having it aborted.
This baby comes before you; it's a part of me.
    That's how I told him.
Eventually, he went to his family for a bit and took some distance from me. Of course, it hurt, but yes, I couldn't let that baby be aborted. It had to be this way, I thought.
Then, luckily, just before the first ultrasound, he called me to say that he had told his wife about us and the pregnancy, and that they would divorce.
He came to me and of course came with me to the ultrasound, and by the way, to every ultrasound.
And now we've been happily together for 12 years with our own little family. He had thought about it and couldn't bring himself to turn his back on me and the child that was coming.
So what I mean here is that it's also possible that once a man gets over the shock, he might come around. Usually, it's a matter of getting used to the idea.
But having it aborted would not be an option for me.
You can end up with severe regret that can never be undone.
I personally believe that a soul chooses its own parents and that it has consciously chosen for its life.
So who are we to terminate it?
But well, lots of strength with the situation, and hopefully, you found my story helpful.
    Sorry for the long explanation.
    Greetings, Madelene

    @Roos,

You must be torn apart by emotions; it's so hard to make the choice you're facing...
I can only advise you to stay close to your own feelings.
Talk it over with your partner again and tell him that it's not for nothing that you're pregnant now...
The fact that you've had trouble getting pregnant is not nothing...
Imagine if you have this baby aborted and you can't get pregnant anymore, you'll always think back
on the baby you had aborted...
I truly wish you a beautiful pregnancy and take your time to consider what decision you're going to make...
And besides, you also mention that your boyfriend doesn't want an abortion and you want to keep the baby. So from what I read, there's no middle ground...
Even if it's a short relationship... please don't have an abortion, you'll carry a bad feeling about it forever...

Thank you all for your stories. It really does me good to be able to talk about it for a moment. Phew, what a relief!

I'll share my sympathy too. I have an ultrasound next Thursday at half past eight. He's going to the hospital with me but doesn't want to see the ultrasound.

But I've made my decision to have an abortion. I don't even want to think about it. I already have two children and a third could fit in too. If he chooses to leave me, then so be it. But I definitely won't have this baby aborted. I got pregnant with luck; fate wanted it this way, and there's a reason for it. I've been a single mom for five years now, so if I become one again, then so be it. But if he really loves me and wants to be with me, he needs to accept my choice.

I'm very happy with your sympathy and support. I'll keep you updated for sure.

I'm glad I can talk about it here. Thank you all!

Hi Roos, it's so nice to hear that you've made up your mind to keep your baby. And indeed, if he really loves you enough, he will definitely accept your choice. You have a chance that he'll ultimately accept it. I'm very glad to have heard your story; it really resonated with me, and I felt for you because although my situation wasn't exactly the same, it was somewhat similar. It takes a lot of courage, and it's great that you've decided to keep your baby. This child was meant to come to you. Have a lovely evening, and it would be wonderful if you keep us updated. Love, Madelene

You have a child for life, see it as a gift from God! A man who makes such remarks doesn't last long. The baby is already alive and didn't ask to be conceived. Who are you to take away its life??

    Tamara
I also know that I have a child for the whole life
It came as a shock to my partner
    And to me too
I'm not saying I'm getting rid of it
I'm keeping this baby, just like my partner wants

You made the right choice! You won't regret it!!

    @hartje
    Thank you! I’m sure I won’t regret it. I can’t wait already!

Tomorrow I have an ultrasound because I was fully under anesthesia two weeks ago and didn’t know I was pregnant.
So I hope the ultrasound goes well, and then I can truly enjoy the fact that I’m pregnant.

    Good morning ladies!
I had an ultrasound this morning at half past eight and then a consultation.
Everything is fine, the little heart was already beating. I'm 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant.
I can have another ultrasound in 2 weeks because then I'll be a bit further along and there will be more to see, but as it looks now, everything is completely fine.
They were quite surprised that I got pregnant and even called it a miracle.
I'm going to tell my friend this afternoon if I can reach him, and then he can make a choice.
But I'm so proud and happy that I've seen my little miracle and I'm really happy.

    Hi Roos 29
What fantastic, beautiful, and happy news
It’s such a special moment, isn’t it, to hear your baby’s little heart beating in your belly.
And imagine how special it feels when the doctor even says it’s a miracle that you got pregnant—then it really was meant to be.
That makes all of this even more extraordinary.
This baby clearly wanted very much to come to you both.
It’s so wonderful to read about your ultrasound.
Enjoy that intense feeling of joy from having such a beautiful little one growing inside you.
Good luck with sharing the news, and yes, it’s great that you said you’re absolutely thrilled—that’s what really matters. After all, it’s growing in your belly.
    This little miracle
    Have a lovely evening.
    Warm regards,
    Madelene

Thank you so much. I haven't heard it kick yet, only seen it. I told him yesterday, he took it in but didn't know what to say. He said he wouldn't leave me hanging. But late yesterday evening, he called me again saying he was overthinking a lot and didn't know what to do, so my feeling would come true that he'd leave me. I haven't heard from him today either and feel absolutely terrible about it, my doubts came back. But I shouldn't doubt. If he wants it this way, I have to let him go, however hard it is. Indeed, this is a miracle, as the doctor also said. I hope I'll get over this soon and then really enjoy it. I do enjoy now, but not with joy yet, but that will be fine.
  18. Madelene #19

    Hi Roos,
that's totally understandable that you're feeling this way right now
It's such a heavy feeling, it immediately reminds me of the uncertain time when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter.
It was such an unpleasant, sad feeling, and at the same time
that uncertainty about whether he still wanted to continue with me and our baby.
I was in that period too, with exactly these feelings.
And how relieved I was when he made his decision and wanted to form a family with me and our baby.
I hope it works out that way for you too,
but if it doesn't, then be happy with your child.
However hard it might be at first,
believe me, there will be an end to this uncertainty
    and confused emotions.
Soon you'll see that things will get better and you'll finally be able to enjoy your pregnancy.
Try to hope for the best and maybe also try to make it clear to him how important it is for you to be together with your child.
And try to make it clear to him how much you need him, especially now that you're pregnant with your child.
It often helps if you let a man know that you need him.
Men are sensitive to that and it encourages them even more to strive for a goal.
    Well, strength and good luck.
And I hope for the best for you.
    Love, Madelene

    Hi Madelene,

I also told him that I really need him right now and can't do without him. But then her reaction is that he doesn't even bother to let me know anything at all.

I think I'll have to accept that I need to move on without him and make peace with it, no matter how hard it is. I shouldn't stress so much about him and start focusing on my baby instead. When I look at my two other sons, aged 10 and 8, I think I've raised them on my own too. I had hoped things wouldn't turn out this way, but we're strong as a family of three, and my boys help me get through it too.

Thank you all for your kind words; they really mean a lot to me.
