I really want a baby, but my partner doesn't.

Hi Yvette,

That sounds like a really tough situation. When it comes to such important things in life, you really want to be on the same page.

I immediately wonder why your partner thinks he wouldn’t be a good father. I think you could use that very argument to talk to him about it. Also, I don’t think you should focus too much on what you want and what he doesn’t. Maybe try approaching it differently instead. Talk about what he *does* want. You might discover things you hadn’t even considered before because of your own desire for children.

Good luck and stay strong!

To be completely honest, I hear a lot of "he doesn't want to." But we women aren't fertile forever, while men have all the time. Also think about yourself: a child is forever, more so than your partner, however crazy that might sound. Your clock is ticking.

I think with most men, too much consideration is given to them, while a man usually gets used to the idea naturally when the time comes. In my opinion, you shouldn't talk about it or ask too much, because they can't really imagine it until it happens. A pregnancy happens spontaneously, and if it was meant to be, the man usually gets used to the idea naturally. It takes 9 months, so there's plenty of time to get used to it.

    Greetings, Madelene

    Hi Yvette,

I’ve never had any issues with this myself; my boyfriend brought up the topic of kids first. Maybe it’s because he’s a bit older than me. But the fact that he wouldn’t be a good dad is definitely not the reason he doesn’t want kids. You need to find out why he really doesn’t want children. And if he truly doesn’t want kids, you need to think carefully about what you want. A life with your boyfriend without children? Or maybe starting a new relationship with someone who does want kids?

    Best, Esther
