Eyes moving back and forth, baby is 5 months old

Epilepsy doesn't have to come with seizures. An acquaintance of mine has a form of epilepsy that only manifests through stress; she just zones out for a moment. You can't really tell, except that you don't get any response from her for a short period. Maybe they could check if that's what's going on with your little boy? Could it be due to overstimulation or lack of sleep?

Oh okay, so that’s possible too! Yeah, it’s not really like he’s falling or anything, at least it doesn’t seem like it.. and after that he’s also playing right away. But everything is also going so fast with him. The cuddly toys are literally mishandled haha and I’m holding the phone above his head with such a grip thing on it, he swings that thing back and forth so that it would fall on him. I also sometimes have the feeling that he wants too much and also wants to be able to do more than he can. But when I said in the hospital that it could be related to overstimulation, that doctor was like I don’t think so.. but what then was, he didn’t know either. So that doesn’t really help you either. Fortunately, he does seem normal otherwise but still I find it looks so weird and a bit scary in some way.

It could indeed be epilepsy; there are so many different forms of it. There are forms where their thoughts seem to drift off for 5 seconds, but that's a mild form of epilepsy. Seizures are hard work: it's quite possible that he's a bit tired afterwards, eats less well or acts differently. I was also thinking about a problem with eye pressure, although that seems less likely.

I'd recommend asking for a referral to a neurologist or an MRI of the brain. It's probably nothing to worry about, but then it's ruled out for sure.

    Good luck!

Hi Miekie, do you know any more by now?

Hi Hyacinth, sorry for the late reply! I only just saw your message! I hadn't been on Brabbels for a while. He's now 10.5 months old and has already not done it for a few months! He had a few tests at the hospital and his eyesight wasn't quite right then, so he had to come back a few months later to be tested again, and it looked much better then! No idea what it actually was in the end! Glad he's not doing it anymore now! It did worry me. Thanks for your message, don't know if you're still reading this... best wishes, Miekie

    Tip, try filming the moments.
A doctor benefits most from that. If necessary, set up a camera on the
    Playmat to capture the 'moment'.
    Good luck

Hi Miekie, good to hear it ended with a sister. Good luck!

Yeah, we did try to film it back then but couldn’t manage it. He’d just stop, you always see that At the hospital he did it though, and the doctor saw it but didn’t know what it was. He said it’s nothing serious, I think. Babies can do weird things with their eyes, that’s okay up to six months, he said. I wasn’t fully reassured by his answer at the time.. But it’s faith, so it’s probably nothing strange since he hasn’t done it for a while now.
