When can you get pregnant after a C-section?

Hi everyone!
I’m having a scheduled C-section on July 12th this year. We’d really like to try for a third baby soon after our little man is born. Does anyone know how long you should wait? I haven’t found much helpful info online...
Thanks!

    Hi,
A C-section is quite a major surgery and your body often needs more time to recover than after a natural birth. It takes about three weeks for the wound to heal. For some it happens faster than for others. I think it's important to give your body enough rest after the C-section. If everything heals well and you feel good, then you can get pregnant again. If you're still unsure, I'd suggest asking your doctor or midwife!
    Kind regards, Suus

It's wise to wait 6 months before getting pregnant again.
You're completely open and it hits hard.
I also had a C-section with my son and honestly, I was glad about those 6 months "punishment".
What a workout your body gets, seriously...

I've had 3 C-sections already. The first one was very painful. Recovery took a long time, more than 6 weeks. The other two C-sections were easier with quicker recovery. My advice for any woman who has had a C-section: wait at least 2 years before starting a new pregnancy.

    Hey

I had a C-section in 2013 and was pregnant again after 3 months, so another C-section in 2014. But I really suffered through the second C-section; I should have waited a bit longer because that second surgery was so risky. The OB-GYN told me my uterus had become so thin that it was almost torn. Thank goodness it didn't tear, and I have a beautiful baby boy.

I'd advise you all to wait at least 2 years before trying to get pregnant again.

I thought you had to wait a year before getting pregnant again.
I don't know this from personal experience.
    I've never had a C-section myself.
But I've heard it from different people and also read about it in the C-section topic.

Hi, I gave birth by C-section 5 and a half months ago. My daughter passed away during the birth, and I want to get pregnant again as soon as possible. Has anyone else been through this? How was your delivery? Hoping to get some replies. Best wishes.

Hi, I had a C-section 3 months ago and I'm pregnant again now. My stitches haven't healed properly yet—should I take that risk?

Hi.. I had a C-section 6 weeks ago, but recovery is going really fast here. However, the advice is not to get pregnant for a year. The risks are for you and your baby. I'd ask the doctor what they think.

    Hello
I gave birth on June 26, 2016 (30+1 weeks) via cesarean section to a baby boy who sadly passed away two days later, but now I really want to have a second child. However, my gynecologist advised me to wait a year. What should I do?

    Hi girls,

I had a C-section last May and was advised to wait 15 months before getting pregnant again. They don't give the advice to do nothing for 6 weeks and then wait to conceive for no reason either. It does vary from person to person though. I think you should first see how your recovery is going before you decide to try again. It's been 16 months now and I got pregnant 4 months ago, which ended up being a miscarriage. But I have to say that I still have issues with the scar and my belly to this day. It's never quite been like "before" again.

    Hi everyone,

I had an emergency C-section last August at 34 weeks + 5 days. My son is doing great.

We're now trying for a second baby I recently had a chat with my gynecologist. He mentioned that after a C-section, you should definitely wait at least a year because a C-section is major abdominal surgery.

Yeah, I think the risk for you and the baby is quite high because the scar might not be able to support the growth of the uterus and the baby's weight..

I gave birth via C-section in July this year to a son who, unfortunately, also passed away at 35+6 weeks. My baby was otherwise healthy, only having issues with the placenta. In September, I expressed my desire for a child to my gynecologist, and she said there was no objection to getting pregnant quickly. She mentioned that there are no clear studies proving otherwise. Of course, I also understand that the body needs time to recover, but I understand even better that you have become a mother and are left with empty hands, yet your heart is full of maternal love.

I am grateful that I was able to hold a positive test this week. And now a very heavy period will begin, both mentally and physically. But the desire overcomes the fear.

    Hi ladies,
I have an appointment on Dec 15th with the midwife to check my wound. The GP already looked at it yesterday and said it healed nicely and well. Now we'll see what the midwife says and hope we get the go-ahead.

    Hi Melissa,

That would be nice if they all approve. But a midwife? Can she say anything about the timeframe to get pregnant again after a C-section? As far as I know, only a gynecologist can.
It's really about the scar in the uterus, so the scars in your abdomen that could tear, etc. And not so much the scar you see on the outside.
    Hopefully good news!

    Hi Sas,
I have an appointment with the gynecologist on Dec 5th, so I'm curious.

Just listen to your gynecologist's advice. If they say wait 6 months, wait 6 months; if they say a year, wait a year. Your gynecologist knows your situation best—they saw your uterus during the surgery and will check your scar during your follow-up appointments after so many weeks. I'd just follow that advice and not listen to random people on the internet. No matter how much you want to get pregnant again quickly, your gynecologist gives professional advice for a reason.

This gynecologist hasn't seen my wound because I gave birth in Zwolle and live in Lelystad, and I go to the gynecologist there. But if they indeed say I have to wait a year, then I'll just do that too.
