trisomy 18

Evelyn
Today marks exactly 13 weeks pregnant with our 6th baby, and yesterday we got the news after the combined test that there's an increased risk of 1:70 for Edwards syndrome.
Our whole world fell apart; now we have to go to Erasmus on Monday for further tests.
I can't concentrate anymore, I feel so sad.
Are there any other moms who have experienced this or are going through it?

    Hi Evelyn,

I haven't been through it myself, but I really wish you all the strength and success. I truly hope your pregnancy has a good and positive outcome

    Hi Evelyn,

I’d never heard of this syndrome before, so I did a quick Google search. I wish you all lots of strength in the coming days.

And of course, congratulations! How old are your other children?

    Best, Anita

    Thank you all.
    The other children are 23, 21, 18, 8, and 7 years old.
I was completely unprepared; I didn’t even know about the syndrome.

    Hi Evelyn,

How did the other kids react to the news of this pregnancy and the syndrome?

When I was pregnant with my son, we had an increased chance of Down syndrome, 1 in 120. Fortunately, we got a healthy son, but I had a really hard time with it. Good to keep in mind that the chance your baby doesn't have trisomy 18 is still very, very high!!!! Wishing you lots of strength during these tough days.

    Hi Evelyn,
I know how you feel. I also did a combination test and got a 1 in 100 increased chance of trisomy 18.
I have my NIPT test tomorrow and it's really weighing on me. Especially since it's my first pregnancy. The ultrasound showed everything was fine in terms of growth and weight.

I hope we both get good news soon.

Strength in this difficult time, I know what you're going through.

    Greetings, Eva
