big baby wish, but still waiting a bit

Hi everyone!!

Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted kids. I always played house, and I took my Baby Born doll everywhere with me. At 14, I had my very first dream about having a baby, and I was so sad when I woke up.

Now I'm 22 and have had a few boyfriends, and yep, I've found THE ONE!!

More and more people around me are having kids—from former classmates to old friends—and secretly, I'm pretty jealous.

Why wait?

My boyfriend and I have only been together for two months, and yeah, that's really short. Despite that, we've already talked about it together, and we'd both be totally fine with it.

First living together—that's our goal, and I'm fully behind it. He has a good job, but I've been unemployed for two weeks now, which makes it harder for me. Without a job, everything takes longer.

My parents know I have a strong desire for children, and they can't wait to become grandparents themselves, so that feels nice.

But the restlessness inside me is getting worse, especially when my boyfriend brings it up again.

I don't want to talk too much about it with him because I don't want to give the impression that I'm pushing him, which is why I signed up for this forum.

Are there others who feel the same or have felt this way, and how did you handle it??

Cheers!!

and how did you deal with it?

    I got pregnant by accident...

When I was two, my love for babies began. My mom stopped breastfeeding my dolls and walking them around in a stroller. I also picked flowers because I was getting married (I was between 1.5 and 4 when I did that).

When I was twelve, it really started to tickle me. I was already fed up with extreme irregular periods after a year, and babies around me were just the end for me.

Slowly I realized that I would find it acceptable to get pregnant around the age of 18 (if I had the partner).

When I was 20, I ran into my current partner (now 21) again. We had been neighbors since we were kids and had broken up briefly when I moved, but with a nice old and new year we rolled into a relationship. I had just started a study and tried to push the idea of children away with fun things.

Last August, we heard that his brother (28) and his girlfriend (32) were expecting a baby. My boyfriend and I discussed the topic: yes, we would like to, but not before my studies are almost over or are over. Now that his brother is having a baby, we thought we would grant them the pleasure by starting later ourselves and decided to do it safely.

We had broken up for a while, and with a short start of the current new relationship, we were just 6 months back together when we got pregnant and found out at 5 weeks. So my boyfriend, 21, and I, almost 23, will become uncle and aunt in April and dad and mom in July.

So I can really see myself in your life.

I can only tell you: take into account your own feelings and his feelings. If it doesn't work out financially, that's another point, and even then it can go well. I was literally born in a student house where my parents rented 2 rooms. Make a schedule with him about what you want to achieve. Now finding a job and then getting pregnant might cost you your job.

I dealt with it by avoiding baby stores and avoiding conversations about babies. In my class, my nickname was sometimes 'fluttering ovaries' haha.

If you really want it, discuss that with him by asking when you would be willing to become parents. Ultimately, you're only truly ready once the baby is here

    Did this help at all?

I myself had the mist because it came unexpectedly, but I can imagine it a bit. I would say discuss it well with each other, if the money is there, go live on your own and for a baby!

    Good luck

    Love, hartje

    haha Heart!
we run into each other quite often

thanks both for replying, I'm sometimes afraid that people won't get it because I'm young and we've only been together for 2 months.
my old female friends always had a different vision for my future and made that clear. (I haven't had contact with them since I got into a relationship anyway)

my boyfriend has a good stable job himself, so it should be possible, he also says that if it happens unexpectedly, he'll support us both and sees it as a surprise, and we'd just speed up the cohabitation process. but I really want to contribute myself too, even if it's just for extra.

I can talk about it with him, especially since he's open to it, things are really super good between us and we have the same vision for the future.. but to actually come up with numbers, I don't dare.. also because then I'd really start waiting and it would just take longer.

and that bit about dolls and stuff, I really relate to that too. everyone who knows me knows that I want that, purely because I've always talked about it. it got worse when I worked in the baby and kids' clothing section and saw all those cute things and could also admire many babies in their strollers.

congrats on your pregnancy, dear. weren't you secretly really happy that it happened unexpectedly like that, since you've wanted it for so long??
  5. Naatje #6

I'm so happy, but it did take a while. I was shaking with the test in my hand.
But that's because I'm studying and he works part-time, and we don't live together yet. If I were in your situation, I'd be trying with him right now (but that's not me ).
We're going to live in my parents' house, and my parents often go to the country where my mom is from, so we'll basically be house-sitting since they're rarely there (unless the UK is coming, then they'll probably stay here longer).

Yeah, I can totally understand that. It’s exciting... but it’s nice that you have people around you who step in to help.

Since we’ve only been together for 2 months (even though it feels very strong that we want to move forward together), everyone in his friend group wants to do fun stuff now. I think that’s sensible too, so we don’t end up saying later “we should’ve done that first.” Enjoying each other... but we’re already doing that anyway.

I’ve never been on the pill either, and I have my reasons for that, which I’ve honestly told him. His reaction was incredibly sweet. He said he understood and that if it did happen, he’d see it as a surprise and would actually like it. So now I kind of want it to happen as soon as possible, haha.
  7. Naatje #8

Thanks for the congratulations (I kind of missed it )
I stopped the pill in June because I was gaining 3 kilos a week and that’s not really healthy... I’ve always had a bit of an aversion to the pill but had to use it because of heavy bleeding.
I never felt the need to go out, and during those 40 weeks of pregnancy you can still do plenty A child isn’t a burden until you start seeing it as one. Enjoy eating out with your friends and slowly shift into a different way of interacting with people. People who don’t go to the pub (so to speak) but instead go out for lunch together.
We were worried about his mom’s reaction; she might say something like “it’s a kid, so she’s coming,” but mainly whether we’d get criticized.
But now everyone thinks it’s great
  8. Naatje #9

that's not even sneaky anymore haha
those are basically red flags with sirens!
  9. justme started this #10

haha yes that’s true and I definitely won’t see it as a burden..
I can focus 100% on it since all my friends have let me down and I’m now slowly becoming friends with his friends..

but honestly, don’t you think 2 months is too fast..
and getting a house first is definitely priority number 1!!

I didn’t have an easy childhood myself and I’ve also taken care of my 2 younger brothers a lot
never really had a home.. which is partly why I have such a big desire for it.

so I really want to have a nice, happy family and not just a house but a home.

I’m also a bit worried about his parents’ reaction.
I don’t know what they think about it and my boyfriend has never talked about it either.. except with me then..
I think if we say we’re going to move in together (hope to do so this year haha) they’ll already be quite shocked, let alone if we get engaged or start having kids x]

it’s so nice that everyone has accepted it!
and are you 14 weeks now? (judging by your photo haha)
how is it going so far..
  10. Naatje #11

go have fun with your family
don't get unlucky like my friend's brother. he didn't tell his grandma that his girlfriend was pregnant and got a good talking to.
if you're so sure about him, don't forget to introduce your family
introduce him. I kind of 'threw' my boyfriend at my family...
he's now completely taken care of, although it took a while
reading this: find a nice spot
I got pregnant before the engagement and tomorrow 15 weeks
  11. Naatje #12

It's going well At 13 weeks I already felt the little one kicking a bit, and the midwife had a bit of trouble hearing the heartbeat today because the little one decided to have a good wrestle XD
I do have to keep my stomach full continuously, otherwise I either feel nauseous or have to run to the nearest toilet or sink.

If you're convinced it's him and you're serious about each other, two months is quite early, but not too early to get to know each other while living together.
Maybe by the end of this year you'll be able to hold onto your first positive test, because it can take a while.
I wouldn't start moving in before you have the keys, otherwise it could be a motivation to look a bit faster
  12. justme started this #13

her parents aren't really talkative, especially not with his exes..
I'm a huge chatterbox myself and with the future in mind I always strike up a conversation with them.. and it works, because they sometimes start talking on their own. maybe just 2 sentences but that's more than enough. and my boyfriend is very happy about that too. and at my place they all love him except my sister who hasn't met him yet xD
I'll always tell the families first and then the rest.. but I've already figured that out long ago.

yeah we're together almost every evening now.. except for 2 days when he has to train.. my dad also makes a lot of comments about that, in a nice way.
and we're already looking at house sites together, but not really seriously. (well, he's not, I kind of am)

he's coming over to us tonight again, with pizza hihi and then I'll probably have to ask what he has in mind regarding timing.

because he keeps saying, I'm thinking a lot about a future together with you, but I'm not really allowed to say that (because he thinks the rest will find it too soon anyway)

    ooh so you're already engaged???
    How did he propose
    ooh 15 weeks already!! nice
  13. Naatje #14

It was a joint decision earlier he already 'asked' me once in between
when we were watching a romantic movie or something. He actually wanted to do it all big and grand, but then some small big news came around the corner

your relationship is between the two of you
I would practice the cohabitation part, I was almost 24 hours at my boyfriend's place at the beginning so the start was already very positive (except for building cabinets, he lets me do that, except if they're computer cabinets)

Does your boyfriend already live on his own? Can't you maybe do something like that but still kind of be there a bit? Starting with a toothbrush.
  14. justme started this #15

    oooh how cool!!
that would really be such a super feeling, the first kicks
ouch that's a bit less, I'm really dreading that too.. last time I was at 10, and then I had to cry so terribly!!
I hope you get past that soon.

Yes, having a house together would be ideal!
we're already practicing cooking at my place, I can already wash and iron and do all the chores because I've lived on my own for 2 years now, and he really wants to learn himself. He helps neatly with the dishes, so in that regard we're already on the right track.. I wake up early with him, make a cup of coffee, wave him off and then he goes back to work.

    Thanks for your honesty.
  15. justme started this #16

I hope you're keeping up a bit because we're typing at the same time hihi
  16. Naatje #17

Great feeling?! Plopies, weird plopies haha

Keeping track will be fine I'm doing an internship so sometimes chatty people come by who want to share their whole life story, and then I get lost in all the conversations.

My boyfriend was raised to be very independent, he cooks better than I do and is better at planning household tasks and getting them done much faster. But we're calm with each other and easy to talk to, so we can handle it well together.
  17. justme started this #18

His toothbrush was already here in week 1, and after 2 weeks it was already time hihi
We once saw each other at school 8 years ago
And a friend of his had set us up.
And I can honestly say that I’ve never felt so happy and joyful before I met him. He’s given me so much support and love. Something I unfortunately had to miss out on for a long time.

He still lives with his parents, and I live with my dad.
But he really wants something of his own, and was the first to bring up the idea of us living together. (He started with some hints, and I kept my mouth shut at the time so I wouldn’t scare him off.)

Haha, like a little test to see how you’d react??
That’s sweet though..!! And have you already got a date?

We’re already working on that too..
And I’m waiting with bated breath, giving him sneaky little hints, but I’ll say yes without hesitation if he asks me.
Although that would only be after a year, because he thinks that’s too soon right now I guess..
Unless there’s a little one in between.
  18. justme started this #19

hihi yes, it’s probably a bit weird too, I guess, but it’s nice to feel those first kicks..
    sounds amazing..

ok, I’ll try to keep that in mind then.. I’m just sitting at home being bored, so I’m glad to have someone to chat with for a bit, especially about this topic.
it feels good to be able to share without being judged or getting stupid comments about education and waiting and enjoying life while you’re still young.. because I know that too.

you two sound like a dream team!!
you were both around 22, right?
  19. Naatje #20

we have a date and by chance (the only day left before I go into labor) the day when my grandma has her birthday

but from my side it's hard to say much because I've been with my boyfriend for a while and have already experienced all the ups and downs. I know how he goes for someone and I've experienced how he goes for me. Especially after having been apart for a few months.
I'll definitely be happy for you if you get pregnant, but I don't have much to say about it.
Only that we both have equally crazy ovaries and are the same age, haha
I also know the effect on our way of thinking the more we are kept away from our dream... people who say: enjoy your life, you're still so young, you have your whole life ahead of you etc etc etc... as if you can't do that with a child. Your life is still your life, you just have something extra added to it!
My midwife (abbreviated as VK on baby sites) thinks it's super that I, at 22, am pregnant because it's at the peak of fertility.

I have little to do during my internship, just sitting and typing haha. Which I'm also annoyed about because I actually want to learn...
