My son cries a lot in his sleep.

Hi ladies,

As the title says, my son cries a lot in his sleep.

I don't understand how this can be! He's a cheerful 14-month-old boy who always smiles, plays nicely, and is happy at his grandma's. He even has a playmate, a cousin who's two months older than him.

Everything goes well until it's time for bed. It's already a battle (so to speak) to get him into bed. He screams and jumps around in his bed! No way is he going to sleep! I'm at my wit's end! Sometimes I give up quickly because I always think the neighbors might think I'm mistreating him or something. I was shocked the first time I saw him act like that! Now I have to stand next to him until he falls asleep. But it's very difficult; I have to put him back in bed more than 10 times because he always wants to get up, and I lose so much time. Before, I could put him to bed and he'd fall asleep quickly, and I could do my chores. Now I'm losing time and I'm so tired.

When he does finally fall asleep, he sleeps well through, but usually, he starts crying from 11 pm onwards, sometimes sobbing hard for hours! He wakes us up!!

I'm starting to find it very strange, such long sobbing and so many wake-ups!

I'm at my wit's end, I don't know what to do anymore. My husband and I are exhausted, and we feel like we're just giving in to his whims, which shouldn't be the case, right!

I'm wondering if there are any other moms who are going through this?

Best wishes

I’d go see an osteopath; maybe there’s something internal bothering him that’s preventing him from falling into a deep sleep. Vaccinations can also cause physical issues—I had both my boys unvaccinated through a homeopath, and this resolved many complaints. Wishing you lots of success and keep going!

We never had any issues with falling asleep, but our little boy always cried at night. We tried everything; moved the bed, dressed him warmer, let him nap less during the day, etc., and after a year we suddenly thought of hanging up a night light...and he slept through the night!! You can always try. Maybe he's scared. Good luck!

    Hey ladies,

    Thanks for your replies..
On Friday I went to the pediatrician because he needed 2 vaccinations, and the first thing the doctor said was "oh ma'am, you look very tired, is everything okay? Is he still not letting you sleep?" I explained everything to him, with tears in my eyes! He himself noticed that I've lost a lot of weight! Mais bon! He then arranged an appointment for us with a psychologist for babies who have trouble sleeping. I really hope this will help!!!

    @ Anita,

The nightlight is on all night in the bedroom, so I don't think that's the cause!
I put him in a sleeping bag + with an extra blanket over him, so he shouldn't be cold or hungry either,
@ Iza, a colleague also recommended I go to an osteopath. I'll have to find one in my area. She told me it's not medical, but completely different. I hope I don't have to drive too far for that!

    Many greetings
