Announcing pregnancy with a laugh and a tear

Tammy
Hi everyone,

I'm 35 and today I'm 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant if everything goes well (which I naturally assume it will), so my due date would be May 4, 2014

We've been trying for 13 months. First, we tried on our own for half a year, but I already had quite a bit of trouble detoxing from the pill, brrr, so I understood that already. Then I found out that my mother had lung cancer and that with radiation she would have max 1 year, and without radiation max 3 months. Oh, my whole dream fell apart like a house of cards. Because I had already made a whole plan to tell my parents when the time ever came.

I went to the hospital and asked if they could help me with IUI, and upon hearing my story, they immediately agreed (though they did mention this is no guarantee it will work) because my goal had suddenly become: I really want to tell my mother that she's going to be a grandma. Underwent all kinds of tests, had a laparoscopy, but it didn't work!!!

My mother passed away on July 26, 2013, and was cremated on August 1, 2013.
I got my period way too early on August 2, 2013, and on August 12, 2013, I was inseminated and pregnant on the 5th IUI attempt.

It feels very mixed because you naturally wonder why this is happening now, right after she's gone. And I wanted to tell her so badly, but maybe it was for the best that I couldn't. In return for that, I get something beautiful: I was counted around May 4, and my mom's birthday is May 14, so maybe it'll be close to that
I was and am so proud.. when I had my first ultrasound yesterday.. Secretly, I held the ultrasound picture up as if she could see it. But one thing I'm sure of: he/she already has 1 guardian angel.

My mother will have helped me. She knew how much we wanted this...

    Hi Tammy!

Big, big congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm sure everything will turn out fine Enjoy the ride! Even though I know (from my own experience) that the first 3 months can sometimes be a bit nerve-wracking. But don't worry!

I had to miscarry at 6 months and got pregnant again in the 7th month. With the first one, it naturally takes shorter/longer than with the other Every body is different.

That's so sad about your mom! My cousin recently lost her mom to lung cancer too! My heartfelt condolences! This must be truly heartbreaking for you while on the other hand you're happy about the baby on the way! It's indeed 2 emotions that are close together.. I can totally understand that you wanted to tell your mom so much but didn't get the chance at that moment! Unfortunately, there are some things you just can't control in life! But anyway She'll always have been proud as a mom! That's how moms are about their own flesh and blood daughters/sons. This will surely be the case for you with yours soon too!

Enjoy your little miracle in your belly! And wishing you lots of strength and courage for processing the loss of your mom!

    Best wishes!

Tammy, I wish you lots of strength during this difficult time! Know that your mom is there for you!
Saskia: I have a question for you...
You mentioned you had to stop the pill after 6 months, how did that go? I recently stopped taking the pill and have been experiencing all sorts of symptoms, but a test was negative. So I think it's just coming off the pill.
    Greetings

    Hi Sharon,

    Thank you so much!!

I definitely had a lot of trouble with the false alarms.
As soon as I turned on the computer, there were pregnancy symptoms already, I looked at them so often, my body really played tricks on me, I thought time and time again that I was pregnant.. but unfortunately not.

For example, I had real binge eating episodes, was tired, lay in bed and couldn't sleep, felt dizzy, had headaches, stomach pain, yes, just name them all. And according to my boyfriend, I had a short fuse haha, of course I don't agree with that hihi (okay...but it's kind of true)
I gained weight, and had constant breast pain. I also bought a lot of tests and they were all negative. (by the way, it's best to buy the tests at Kruidvat, 2 for 5 euros)

But one good thing is, it's over haha.
I hope I could help you with my experience, and if you want to know anything else, just let me know.
Wishing you lots of success and hoping you get pregnant soon.

    Greetings, Tamara

Did you not have a period for 7 months?
Thanks in advance for the info!

Yeah, that was just normal... I've always had cycles between 23 and 26 days.

    Hi Tammy,

    Your message gave me goosebumps!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and my condolences on your mom's passing. What a double whammy, huh!

Hopefully, everything stays okay. It's also super nice that your hospital was so supportive and approved the IUI!

@Sharon: coming off the pill was tough (at least I thought so!). I took Yasmine from age 12-13 until I was 22. I stopped taking the pill then, and my body didn't know the way for a bit! For the first month and a half I didn't get my period, but then it came back. When I was on the pill I was very regular, but for the first 4 months after stopping that wasn't the case anymore. I got my period monthly but irregularly. Headaches, nausea, and sore breasts were some of the symptoms of coming off the pill. Basically, for years my own hormones weren't doing their own work because the pill did it for me Anyway, I thought I was pregnant every month, which led to disappointment.. Your body can really give you a false sense of this. I eventually became stable after 5 or 6 months, which also helped me feel and calculate my ovulation better. After stopping the pill I had the feeling I hadn't had any ovulations, weird feeling! So I also started taking Kruidvat folic acid, so that the egg could implant faster and produce more cervical mucus (which is also good later for cell formation and preventing spina bifida etc. during embryo development). And in the 7th month it was a success! Actually, you should count that your most fertile period is 15 days before your period! I ended up going for it that week so I wouldn't miss a day regarding my ovulation! But don't lose hope, and don't force anything Nature will do its work when your body is stabilized! Believe in your body and the rest will follow That's what I thought.. I wish you lots and lots of success! It'll be fine

@Sharon: I sometimes used the web to calculate my ovulation, so you didn't have to figure it out yourself and this helped me a bit! Of course, you can't assume it's exactly that day that ovulation occurs, but still, it's in that week! Just search for 'calculate ovulation' if your periods have become fairly regular.
