Hemangiomas in the liver, Tietze syndrome, and pregnancy

Hi there,

I've been trying to get pregnant for a little while now. Since last May, I've been diagnosed with 3 hemangiomas (benign blood vessel tumors) in my liver and a polyp in my gallbladder. Luckily, they're all benign. I have a follow-up appointment in November to see if the polyp has grown quickly or even gone away. I also have Tietze syndrome (inflammation of the cartilage in your sternum and ribcage).

Next Friday, I have an appointment with my MLD doctor to ask about the possible risks involved during a pregnancy with these medical conditions.

My question now is if there are any ladies who have experience with this during their pregnancy (one of the two or perhaps both).

Best!

    Hi,

My liver is also having some issues. I have several adenomas (also benign tumors) that were closely monitored during my second pregnancy. They were present during my first pregnancy too, but we didn't know about them yet. The reason they were monitored during the pregnancy is that they could grow due to hormones, which could eventually cause them to rupture, leading to a liver bleed. That can be quite dangerous, so. I don't know if that applies to hemangiomas as well. What I do know is that most hospitals have unclear or no policy regarding liver tumors and pregnancy. The liver patients' association helped me a lot. And doing your own research and staying critical, I think, is also important.

    Hi Marije,

Thank you so much for your reply! I have a good specialist who reassures me and keeps an eye on things. It's true that the growths can grow due to hormones. We'll just have to wait and see how big they actually get. It's exciting!

We're really trying to conceive and hope everything goes smoothly (like for any other person)!

    Best, Gina
