Lower back pain

Hi ladies,

I have a question. I'm 9 weeks pregnant now and I'm really experiencing a lot of lower back pain.
What are your experiences with this?
I mainly feel it when sitting still for a long time or sitting hunched over, but sometimes also just when walking.

Love, Jeda

    Hi!

I’ve been having it too, though I’m further along in my pregnancy. If I pay attention to how I sit, walk, move, and bend, it gets better, especially when combined with enough movement and warmth. If it persists or gets worse, I’d call the physio.

    Love, Beertje!

Yeah, I think I'll drop by the midwife tomorrow. I don't have a bump or anything yet, so it feels pretty early????
I'd also like to start exercising again. I was always nauseous or tired, but I want to try picking it back up. Love, Jeda

Something is growing in your belly, which pulls on your back and can cause pain. Often, just changing your posture or doing things slightly differently makes a big difference. Going to the gym shows that you're pregnant and having back issues. Strengthening your back muscles can also help! Good luck!

    Great tips from Beertje above!
It's not surprising that you already have this while you don't have a belly yet pulling on your lower back. It's actually mainly about your hormone levels. Pregnancy hormones like progesterone and relaxin make all your joints more flexible. Useful for when a baby eventually comes, but it can also lead to pain.
You're already 9 weeks along, hopefully the fatigue and nausea will pass quickly. Then the energy to exercise will come back too - that can just be walking or cycling - and it will. I started training in the gym again at 13 weeks (I'm now 18 weeks), I love it and it also helps a lot with my lower back pain If exercise isn't enough for you, then go see a physiotherapist, they can give you targeted exercises.
    Good luck!

Thank you so much!!! I'll wait a bit more before resuming sports, I want to pick it up again next week in a relaxed way.. But it's nice to read that it's not weird :-)

Bizarre. Since yesterday, I've also had severe lower back pain. I couldn't imagine it was due to the pregnancy. Maybe it is after all. Thanks for the tips!
