Confused by CB...

Hi everyone,

I took my 4.5-month-old son to the child health clinic (CB) yesterday, and when they showed me the growth charts, she gave me a really weird look regarding his weight. He weighs 7210g and is 66.6cm long. She thought that was quite heavy... She also said I was feeding him too much. 4 times 210ml.

What do you all think? How much do your little ones weigh and how much do they eat in a day? I was quite surprised because, to me, it doesn't seem like much, and he doesn't look chubby or anything.

Looking forward to your replies. Thanks in advance.

Love, Amber

    My son is 7 months old (born on the 31st), 67.5 cm and 8.515 kg.
    He gets 4x 200 (of which 2x baby food), a bit of fruit, half a bread roll and a bit of warm food. Your son might be a bit heavier, but well, my cousin who is almost 1 year old is still less than half a kilo heavier than my son... well, body build differs per child because they got the same amount at that age.

    Don't let the CB (Childbirth Bureau) get to you! They're really good at making new moms feel insecure!!

    My first one they always said was too heavy. But she was never sick, never had any issues. And now she's a huge girl and looks perfect.

    Thanks for your replies!
    Yeah, apparently they’re really good at it.. I was also amazed at how she did it because nothing had ever been said before and he’s doing great otherwise, such a cheerful little guy. Glad I’m not the only one who gets confused by them hihi silly, right? Somewhere you know you’re doing it right but still they make you doubt yourself

    @Amber,

    Don't get me started on CBs (community midwives). I'm a mom of 3 myself now, my son is 6 months and a few days old... But when he was 4 weeks old, he wasn't growing well and they immediately wanted to give him an injection. I said no, he hasn't grown enough, he had only gained like 0.05kg and he wasn't even back to his birth weight anymore...
    I said I'm not saying he shouldn't get any shots at all, but I'm saying not now.
    She also immediately started on about me being 5 minutes late while she herself was 15 minutes behind schedule. The time she did go to give the shots, she did it so brutally hard that I switched CBs and now it's going perfectly. So Amber, don't let the CB get to you ABSOLUTELY, take your own initiative and besides, you're 4 years away from it and if you really don't trust something, you can always go to your own GP..
    Strength and if you have questions you can always ask us SO MANY moms with lots of experience and you can also ask the professionals who will answer you too, we of course know nothing about the medical side :-)

    Oh girl, come on... don't let them get to you, okay!! They always try to make you feel insecure during your first pregnancy... it's just terrible, ugh...

    I've now clearly stated from the third visit that I'm fine with everything, I'm only coming for the vaccinations and nothing else. They've noted that, so I'm happy with that;-)

    There's always something: they say the baby is too big, then too small, then you're not allowed to give juice, only water, and so on... I think it's the same story everywhere.

    Your man is cheerful and doing well, you say... so you're doing great, girl... Follow your gut and don't listen to all that nagging;-)

    Your baby is not too heavy at all! My son was 66 cm and weighed 7130 grams at 4 months! Your baby looks absolutely lovely! And while the CBJ (child health clinic) expects everything to follow the guidelines, you should just do what feels right for you! And don’t let them stress you out! As mothers, we know what’s best for our babies!

    I learned that too with my first son at the CB... don't let them get to you and just give your baby what you think he needs!! They always have something to say... either they're too thin or they're too fat!!

    Hi ladies

    I'm so incredibly happy to read your messages!
    I feel much better already, I was leaving a bit grumpy haha, but you're right, there's always something going on..
    And Ju, it's terrible how they treated you and your partner in such an inhumane way. You're absolutely right to have gone to a different place.

    Thank you all so much!
    Love, Amber

    @Amber,

    Yeah, and that's exactly what you have with agencies that employ a doctor who has to deal with the VUT (early retirement scheme) :-)
    I've gotten over it though. Yesterday I was still with my son and everything was fine.
    He is 6 months and a week today..71 cm and 7kg and 800gr...

    I'm glad you're feeling better again..

    Love from us

    My son was 9320 grams and 69 cm at 4 months, and they said that was fine. He doesn't look chubby either, he's just big. Now he's 5.5 months, 10.5 kg and 73 cm. He gets 4 bottles of 210 + 8 scoops, and 250 grams of veggies with a bottle of 60 cl and 2 scoops, and 250 grams of fruit with 60 cl of milk. He's just really big, he even wears clothes for a 9-month/1-year-old baby. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Some babies are just big, and as you said yourself, he doesn't look chubby! Love

    My son was born prematurely. And I had pregnancy-induced hypertension. Which means he didn't have such a great time in my womb, you know. He was too light for his weight. 2535 grams and 48 cm. He also drank poorly, so he weighed 2290 grams at the end and was admitted to the hospital 2 weeks prior.
    Now, 4 months later, he's almost 6 kg and over 64 cm long. I've actually only had positive feedback from the CB so far. Even though he's growing slightly below average according to their standards, they're very satisfied with him. Tomorrow is his vaccination again. I'm curious how it'll go now? I'm actually quite happy with the staff. So we'll just wait and see.
