Does heartburn cause a lot of hair growth?

Hi ladies,

I’ve been having quite a bit of heartburn lately, and someone told me there’s a connection between heartburn and having a baby with lots of hair.

So, if you suffer from heartburn, you’ll have a child with a full head of hair. I’d love that kind of beautiful hairdo, but my question to you is: is this really true? Does anyone have experience with this? If so, did you have a lot of hair or not?

Love, Ilja

    Hi Ilja,

I've never heard of this before. My sister also had a lot of heartburn. But her baby is now 6 months old and still has a lovely bald head ;-). I never had any heartburn, and my child had a full head of hair...

    Who knows... I'm curious!

Haha, I would have found that funny! I also had heartburn, but my daughter (almost 14 months now) still has almost no hair hahaha...
    I think it's just a myth!
Just like they say that if you have a lot of itching on your belly, you'll have a baby with a lot of hair... I think it's more about genetics, don't you think?

If that were true, my daughter would have been born with braids at least a meter long!

No, let's be serious for a moment. I had terrible heartburn, and my little girl was blessed with very little hair, which luckily has grown out well over the years—now it hangs just above her bottom.

    I also believe it's just a myth!

Progesterone can cause heartburn and also extra hair growth when you're pregnant, but I doubt you'd pass that on to your baby. That's the only thing I can think of.

It's probably just another little baby talk;-)
I've really never heard or read about this one either :-)
    I don't believe it either...

Oh yes! We're having another baby with lots of hair!!
Yay, the heartburn phase has started again unfortunately.....

P.S. Of course it's a joke, but I've been having heartburn at night for a few days now.....

I'm so bothered by heartburn that I just feel like vomiting all day long.
And on the ultrasound, they also saw a baby with quite a bit of fluid in the back of the neck.
But it could also just be a coincidence, of course.

    Hi everyone,
As I've read a lot in the replies, I've mostly had heartburn throughout almost my entire pregnancy. I'm now 38 weeks pregnant, and from the ultrasounds, it seems my little boy does have hair, but how much is still unclear. I also read something about itching on the belly, which I've had quite a bit of too, but I think it's more hereditary. My sister gave birth to two beautiful girls, and both had a full head of hair, but she didn't have much trouble with heartburn, so I think it's kind of a myth.

I had a lot of heartburn with my girls too.
But they were both bald anyway.

By chance, I wanted to know the same thing yesterday.

I found online: 25 bizarre pregnancy facts.
    Among them:

    12. Women who suffer a lot from heartburn are more likely to give birth to babies with a lot of hair.
The old saying is true: research showed that women who had more trouble with heartburn during their pregnancy were more likely to give birth to babies with a full head of hair. The baby's hair growth and the heartburn are both due to higher levels of estrogen and progesterone.

I recently had a prenatal scan, and the sonographer also said the baby already had quite a bit of hair. But he could still lose it in the amniotic fluid.
So there's probably some truth to the connection, but it certainly doesn't apply to everyone.
So it's really a matter of waiting and seeing

I’ve had enough morning sickness during pregnancy and a son with a beautiful full head of dark hair.

Yeah, I've heard that too. It was true for me as well. Last pregnancy, I had a lot of heartburn and the baby had lots of hair! This pregnancy, less discomfort... I'm curious to see!
