Pregnancy and friendships

Hi girls, quick question for everyone who’s already pregnant/had a baby: did you lose friends because of the pregnancy? I’m the only one in our group trying to conceive, and when I listen to how they talk about having kids, it’s really negative. I really want a little family, but I’m afraid I’ll lose my friends.

Yeah, you'll see some friends less when you're pregnant, but especially once the little one is here. I also see fewer friends because they live completely different lives and think it's totally normal to make plans for Saturday night at 11:30 PM, so by then I'm already long in bed with those two little rascals. But... you'll meet lots of new mums through your pregnancy and your baby, and build new and different friendships. Your life naturally changes with the arrival of your little one, and this definitely affects your social life, but not only in a negative way, okay!!

Totally agree! I was one of the last in our friend group to have kids, so I was one of those people who just didn't 'get it' :-) It's really hard to put yourself in the shoes of a pregnant woman or young mom if you're not ready for it yourself. Once I had kids myself, I understood them much better, and my bond with a few of them is now even stronger than before.

I lost most of my friends once the little one arrived. And as iza said; you get new friends in return that you really connect with! I have to be honest and say that my circle of friends has gotten nicer!

You can really tell by the friends here too... On one side of the friend group (Angelo's side), we're the second ones with a kid, and on my friends' side, we're the first.
I have to say that many of us have taken the step to start having kids because I'm the youngest in the whole group except for my best friend who's about the same age.
But I did have some issues with my best friend...
Our friendship started to fade a bit; we saw each other less and texted less.
I have to say we had an open and honest conversation about what we were feeling and how we felt, and since that talk, our friendship has become stronger than ever before!!
And it's like they say, you lose friends but you also gain new ones in return!!
    Lots of love

Well, I can't help it, but if friends stay away just because you have a baby, then the friendship wasn't that deep anyway.
You'll keep your real friends no matter what, okay!!
Even if everyone needs a little time to adjust to the new situation, it can actually strengthen your friendships.
You'll just have to manage your time better, though.

My husband, for example, hardly goes out anymore since the little one is here. Before, he used to go out on Fridays "with the guys,"
but now he's always home with his little girl..
To make up for it, he's going to the Netherlands this weekend for his best friend's birthday party, who has no idea—surprise!
And that way, he also knows that my husband hasn't forgotten about him.
