No ovulation?

Since August I've stopped the pill... Actually, it wasn't the plan to try for a baby, but in October my boyfriend said he did want a child after all.. So I was overjoyed!! I immediately went to get vitamins and had my blood tested by the GP.
Now it's March and my cycle is still very irregular. Next week I have to see the gynecologist, because my GP thinks I'm not ovulating, no ovulation = no pregnancy . My basal body temperature doesn't show anything either.
This is making me so insecure. I've always had a strong desire for children and have always been afraid of not being able to get pregnant. Now with this situation it seems completely hopeless. People around me are getting pregnant, while I'm still walking around with a flat belly. We've only been at it for 4 months, but the insecurity is already getting to me. I think this comes from knowing several people who had trouble conceiving.
I also think I'm just thinking about this too much. Does anyone here have tips on how to just go for it without thinking about the desire for a child every day?
Greetings, Belly*dancer

    Explain a bit more.

What do you consider irregular, and what were the previous 4 rounds like?
Why do you think there won't be an ovulation?

Cycle of 91 days, 58 days, 42 days, 20 days... That's irregular in my eyes, and in those of my GP.
In between, I have absolutely no signs of ovulation and my temperature always stays exactly the same, so I think I don't ovulate.
    Best regards

Hmm, if you're completely sure there was no ovulation, it could point to PCOS with those weird irregular cycles. Do you also get mid-cycle spotting and weird abdominal pain?

That 20-day cycle could indeed be without ovulation, but the 58-day and 42-day ones, I think, probably did have ovulation... I'd be surprised if you got pregnant without ovulating with those lengths. That's not that long.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a 44-day cycle with ovulation on day 30.

With your 42-day cycle, you probably ovulated around day 28, and with the 58-day cycle, around day 46, if that's how it went.

But temp readings don't always indicate ovulation even when it's there... some women have a temp rise of 0.2 or 0.3 degrees instead of the usual 0.4 degrees.

Would you do me a favor since I've become a bit curious? Did you track temps for the 58-day and 42-day cycles? I'd really like to look at them and see if I can spot an ovulation. Who knows... you could definitely take them to your gynecologist and ask for her/his opinion.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm ovulating. At first, I didn't pay much attention to it because I didn't know how to handle it. I've been on the pill for 10 years, so I don't know my cycle at all. This is all new to me. I recently ordered ovulation test strips to see when I ovulate, and I hope to get them soon. Hopefully, that will give me a better idea, although it's hard to know when to start testing :s.

In the meantime, I don't have any spotting, just occasional twinges in my stomach that go away quickly.

At first, I didn't track my temperature because I didn't want to get too involved with it. I've been doing it for the last month, but my temperature has been fluctuating quite a bit in the last week.

Did you also have long cycles? That puts me a bit at ease!

Yeah, I had cycles between 29 and 44 days when I was trying for my kids. Very irregular, so I've found a way since 2009 to see ovulation coming. I can now say about 3 or 4 days before ovulation happens which day it will be
You can check out www.thermo-meters.nl – it's really proven to be a successful formula. By the way, the website is mine and I've made it my work.
Maybe you'll read some info there that you didn't know yet, and it could all help, right?

    Good luck with getting pregnant!

    Hi Bellydancer,

I’ve always believed that what you think and tell yourself has an impact on yourself and your body. Maybe you know the saying: thoughts are powerful.

By feeling anxious and uncertain when thinking about getting pregnant, and telling yourself that it probably won’t work, you might actually start to believe it. At least, it doesn’t make the uncertainty any less, which I think makes it even harder to let those thoughts go.

From now on, you could give yourself only positive messages that make you feel good and confident—something that makes you know and feel that it will work out, and imagine yourself with a big belly and a healthy baby. At least it’s much nicer, and maybe it’ll help you not dwell on it so much.

    Good luck!!

Samantha80, I’ll definitely check that out! Because it’s indeed hard to see ovulation coming. I have to go to the gynecologist on Wednesday, so I’m curious.. If she doesn’t have any new info, I’ll definitely follow your method! Then I hope I’ll get a better sense of it, because after 8 months off the pill, I still haven’t quite figured it out . Thanks! I’ll keep you posted! And if I need help or advice, I know where to find you .

Full belly, that’s true.. I do need to learn to think more positively, but I know people who’ve had trouble with this, and I’d rather be pessimistic and have things turn out okay than optimistic and have them fall through. But you’re right. I need to learn to think that it will work out, and then hopefully it will happen naturally . I’m going to start giving myself only positive messages from now on, and then I’ll let you know it worked!

    Greetings!

That's great, girl! And when you're pregnant later on, it'll be so fun to read these posts again, hehe... you'll laugh at everything!

You can also find me on thermo-meters.nl if you want to read more info about all that stuff. Always handy, I think.
There you'll find info on what ovulation feels like and more info about temperature tracking.

Fun fact... two more women got pregnant in the last week, and I have a feeling the third one will join them within 3 days when I see her chart... exciting days ahead!

Top! But... hopefully it doesn't just happen on its own, it happens on its own
I totally get it, you want to protect yourself from disappointment. But you're only telling yourself that you trust your body to get pregnant at the right time. This can help to not dwell on it too much and let go of those thoughts a bit more.
Wishing you lots of powerful thoughts!

    Hihi, that's so true ..
Oh that's nice! Sounds like such a fun thing to do, what you're doing now. Giving women info about ovulation and all that, and then being able to witness up close how they get pregnant because of your advice must be amazing! I'll go through the site soon and follow all your advice! Then I'll be one of the next ones with the happy news .

Thank you so much for the powerful thoughts ..
And it will indeed come naturally! One of the next months it will be my turn to have a beautiful little being in my belly and bring into the world .
    Keep me updated!

Yeah, it happens naturally.. only nature decides when and we have to be patient until it's time Hard but hey.. another day closer to a positive test he

Samantha, if you're measuring your temp rectally, how long do you need to keep it in before you can read it?
  14. Anonymous #15

Do you have one of those digital ones that beeps?
Then it's usually ready in about 2 minutes...
  15. Evelien #16

I got one of those digital ones, indeed...
But I don't understand a thing about it
But I'll try to hold it for 2 minutes tomorrow and see if it beeps
  16. Anonymous #17

Yeah, it takes a while. Sometimes he's faster than other times.
Just let him sit until it beeps you have to hear it, right?
  17. Evelien #18

    thanks for your tip

Do you happen to know what little bits of mucus in your urine are? Just took an ovulation test and had all these white chunks in my urine!
  19. Anonymous #20

Yes, that's your mucus discharge mixing with your urine. Nothing serious, and what you're seeing is already a few days old and is now coming out of the vagina.

How did the ovulation test go?
