The tough part is also that I know my parents and friends won't come if he's there, and they wouldn't treat him normally. He thinks I should defend him and demand that parents and friends respect my wish.
He also said: after the first few days, they'll be back in their own house, with their own partner in bed, and then you'll be alone without me, and deep down you don't want that either. It's about our family, not about the rest, no matter how important they are to you.
That really hit home. -

@Karlijn,
I meant "wait" when I said "wacht aangezegd" – I mean that I’ve stated we’re going to couples therapy, otherwise I’ll put an end to the relationship. And we want to move.. We’re in couples therapy and it’s getting a bit better but we’re not there yet.
I hope you want to give your ex-friend another chance..
Strength and love, MavanMi -

Karlijn, I've read the whole story and I really get from all your posts how much you want him to just be with you, but I think you're afraid to confront your family.
I totally understand, though. My little man knows perfectly well that nothing comes above my family. But if something happens in our relationship and I'm capable of forgiving him, I expect my family to do the same. I simply feel they have no right to be angry about something you could get over.
It's a tough time to be thinking about things now. If you put him aside now and thank him after the maternity period that maybe things will work out between you, you'll have missed a very important period together as a family!
If I were you, I'd have a good talk with your family. Tell them how you feel right now, that you want to forgive him and get your trust back in him. And tell them you want them to do the same, because you can do it too.
Besides, I think a birth and the postpartum period are about you (and your partner). Everyone has to adapt to that, whether they like it or not!
Don't have an account? I would have sent you a private message with some examples from my own family that I'd rather not put on the internet.
Wishing you lots of success and hoping for your baby that you'll choose your family and that your family will do the same for you.
Love, -

Hi Karlijn,
I’ve been reading along with your story too... and I agree with the other girls. I think this isn’t over by any means, and you two still love each other very much!
I know how hard it is when your parents and family, who are the most important people to you, don’t accept your boyfriend! They didn’t do that in my relationship either, and I struggled so much with it and felt absolutely terrible! Your family shouldn’t and can’t force you to make a choice, and they definitely have no right to interfere! You decide, and it’s your life! I even considered breaking up with my boyfriend for my family, and thank God I didn’t! It’s not easy, but things worked out fine here too! Especially now that you really need each other during this beautiful and special time! It seems to me that your boyfriend really wants to fight for you!
You don’t need to adapt to your family!! Your family should adapt to you!! I’d be clear about it and not let my feelings be manipulated by my family and friends! I did that for too long, and everyone was talking down to me! Until I had enough! Fight for your family and figure it out together! Screw everyone else!!!!!! It’s your life and your family!
Good luck, girl! Love, Lynn -

@Karlijn,
I totally get what your partner is going through. He feels alone against a whole front of family members and friends who are against him.
Yeah, you'll have to decide for yourself: if you want to continue, go ahead with him; if not, cut ties completely and don't string him along anymore.
Good luck with your decision. -

I really think it's the hormones, and I expect everything will be fine.
Just like he says, at the end of the day, you should be with the one you love, not the one your friends/family approve of. -

I told him I need to take a step back for myself after having him completely in tears on the phone just now. Stress and anxiety aren't good for the baby or for me. He's afraid he won't be able to make it in time if something happens. He's scared of missing out on time with the baby and me, and he's really afraid that this isn't really my choice but just hormones and outside influence. -

You only need to read that letter if you want to, but you don’t have to. And you should choose the moment yourself if you want to.
The only thing I’d want to say to him if I knew him is that he needs to stop bombarding you with information and feelings. Because he really wants you to understand (or something like that). I think you already know what he wants!! -

He’s not bombarding me with his feelings, mind you. He just shows me what it’s doing to him, and I don’t think that’s so weird because his feelings matter too—it’s not like only I count and only I’m important in this story. He wants the best for the baby and for us as a family, but the baby is 1 year old, and he thinks we need to talk about it and that we should postpone big decisions now, like whether or not to split up.
I’m really going to read the letter because I want to know how he’s feeling and what he thinks. The idea of a letter isn’t even so bad because then you can calmly put things down and express yourself well.
