Ovary not found during IVF

WatermeloenGuest ·
Hi everyone. We're going through an IVF process and today was the first follicle scan. But now my left ovary couldn't be found. I'm just continuing with the medication since I was supposed to have another scan on Friday anyway. But how likely is it that follicles will still develop on that side? The doctor already said the follicles are probably still small. Has anyone experienced this before and turned out to have follicles after all?

    Hi watermelon,
That's really tough that you're going through an IVF journey.
I got pregnant via ICSI, and during the follicle scans, the follicles were visible. It was just that there were very few follicles in the first two scans. There were only 3 follicles, so they even considered stopping the attempt and not doing the puncture. They increased the hormones, and in the end, there were 7 follicles at the puncture, resulting in 6 eggs. After fertilization, 3 remained, one of which was transferred, and that was our daughter. We still have 2 cryo's in the freezer.
In short, don't stress too much. Wait for the second scan, and maybe even the third like I did.

    Hi Watermelon,

I immediately relate to your story. My left ovary was also often not visible (we're now at the end of our IVF journey). It's always tucked behind my uterus.

But no need to panic. Your eggs are growing well on that side, and you'll see that once they get bigger, your ovary will become visible. That's what happened with me. As they grew larger, everything came into view nicely.

Good luck with your journey. I'm rooting for a beautiful outcome.

Here I am again. Luckily, my left ovary was found today! And the most important thing: there is activity! I don't produce many eggs, so it was quite reassuring to see some activity. The ones that are there are growing well, and the puncture is already scheduled for Monday.
