Late period but negative tests... What now?

Hi everyone,

I stopped the pill 6 months ago and my period is still a bit irregular: 26/21/31/33/26/32 days. Now, in my 7th cycle that I'm tracking, I'm already at day 38. I've taken a few pregnancy tests in the past few days, but they've all been negative.

I've been using the Sensitest ovulation tests for 4 cycles now. For this current cycle, I'm not sure if I even ovulated. I usually ovulated quite late, around day 20/21. So I tested from day 15 to day 22. On day 19, I did see a faint line, but it wasn't as dark as in previous cycles. So I'm wondering if that was really my ovulation. After that, the line got lighter again, and I stopped testing.

If I base myself on my longest cycle so far (33 days), I'd be 5 days late. Since I've been trying for over 6 months now, I'm starting to get insecure... will it work for us? I turned 29 a few months ago, and the biological clock is starting to tick...

Who can give me some advice?

Keep testing every day and call your GP if needed after 2 weeks, but it's definitely not due to your age

I'm now on day 54 of my cycle and my ovulation test was positive today. It looks like I skipped a cycle and now I actually ovulated! Now just waiting... When can I take a pregnancy test again? It's hard to calculate my EDD...

It depends on how long your luteal phase is (the phase after ovulation). Generally, it's 14 days. So you'd need 14 days after your ovulation. The "irregularity" usually lies in the time frame from the first day of your period to ovulation.

    Hi everyone,

I'm now on day 61 of my cycle. As you can see, I've started testing again from day 43 because I might have missed a cycle.

I thought I ovulated around Nov 26, but the line isn't as dark as in previous cycles, so I'm still unsure. However, I did notice signs, especially with my discharge and cervical mucus.

There's still a faint line showing up, so I keep testing every day.
If my ovulation was on Nov 26, I should be able to do a ZBT test in 10-12 days (2 weeks later). I'm curious...

I've been feeling a bit lightheaded these last few days.

Hopefully, there'll be more clarity soon, either through my period returning or a positive test next week? I really don't like this uncertainty. If I don't get my period and the test is negative, should I go to the GP?

If you've only been trying for 6 months, that's actually too short to go to the doctor. It's pretty normal to skip a cycle now and then. Especially if you exercise heavily. So if you want to get pregnant, intense sports isn't advisable.

And another thing to keep in mind: what Kyara tells you is super important: namely, the phase of the cycle after ovulation is always constant; the variation is in the first part. That can be shorter or longer than the usual 14 days.

    Hi Matti100
    Thanks for your reply!
I don’t really exercise at all, so that’s probably not it..
I’m now on day 67 and still nothing.. I took a test last Sunday but it’s still negative.
I’m also not entirely sure if I ovulated, but if it was around November 26th, then tomorrow would be 14 days later.
I’ll just wait and see what happens...

    Hi Allen,
It's day 72 now, so I finally made an appointment with the GP. The assistant was quite surprised and thought it was pretty weird that my period has been delayed for so long.
I'm curious what the GP will say...
