Getting pregnant after a curettage

Hi everyone,

At the end of January, we decided to try for a baby and I stopped the pill. And sure enough, at the end of February (28-day cycle), I had a positive pregnancy test in my hand—our joy knew no bounds!

A few days later, I went to the GP for a blood test to make sure all my levels were okay and to be 100% sure. And what did they find... high levels for toxoplasmosis. Our GP reassured us that I might have had toxoplasmosis earlier in life, which would explain the elevated levels. They scheduled another blood test for the following week to get more clarity.

But unfortunately, it wasn't good news. My levels had actually risen even more... it seems I must have contracted the infection just before I knew I was pregnant, or right around the time I conceived. I've had cats for years, eat red meat, eat sushi, and sure enough, now I get infected... just terrible luck!!

My gynecologist was very clear with me and recommended a D&C (dilation and curettage). It was performed at 7 weeks of pregnancy.

After that, I had little to no discomfort—no bleeding, no pain. The control ultrasound looked good. However, it took 8 weeks for my cycle to restart, and it was suddenly 35 days instead of 28. The bleeding was also only brownish, and with one panty liner per day, I had more than enough. My gynecologist advised me to wait a bit longer and give my body enough time to recover. Months passed, and my cycle remained the same. Until last month, when I suddenly got light bleeding on day 28. At first, I thought it was implantation bleeding, but a negative test ruled that out. Still, I was glad my cycle was 'normal' again.

This month, on September 12th, I clearly felt my ovulation and had plenty of sex during that period, hoping for a new pregnancy. According to my cycle, I should be getting my period today (Saturday, September 26th), but since Thursday afternoon, I've had severe menstrual cramps, especially at night, which means I'm sleeping very little or not at all. There's no bleeding yet, but this morning I had a small light brown spot on my underwear, though nothing more when I wiped.

Does anyone have advice? I'm going crazy with myself and my body.

    That could mean anything.
My pregnancies started with period-like pain... but when you want to get pregnant, your body plays tricks on you.
I often thought, 'yes, it's happening.'
Since you don't really have a regular cycle, I'd just wait a few days before taking a test.

    Good luck anyway!
