Second baby

Hi mamas,

I don't know if it sounds crazy, but I wanted to share it with the group anyway.

We have a beautiful daughter who is 16 months old. Recently, we've been thinking about having a second child. On the one hand, I really want another baby!! But on the other hand, there's a kind of fear in me that I can't quite explain. It's like a fear that I won't enjoy my daughter enough without a brother or sister around. A fear that I'm somehow pushing her aside or that she won't be enough as an only child. It sounds absolutely ridiculous to write this down here. And my rational mind knows that's not true in reality.

But I'm wondering if there are any mamas who have felt or felt this way before?

Thanks!

I had that feeling too when we were trying for a second. So I consciously waited until he was almost 2 (so he’d definitely get 2.5 years of full attention), even though on the other hand I did have a strong desire for another child. But that feeling you describe just stayed with me. I felt it sometimes during the pregnancy too, but much less so. Once the second was born, the feeling was completely gone. I kept reminding myself that the second would never get all the attention, but that didn’t mean he’d be loved any less. Luckily, when we went for a third, that feeling wasn’t there at all.

    It’ll be fine!!

You have to think of it this way. A second or third child will never get all that attention all to themselves, they have to share it with the oldest. So in that regard, your daughter already has it made. Go for a second one!

That's exactly what I did too! I really wanted to enjoy having my daughter all to myself, she's now 2 years and 3 months old. I'm currently pregnant with the second one and due in January, so by then she'll already be almost 3. I think it'll also be high time for her to have a playmate at home to play with, etc.
