When do your breasts and nipples grow??

Hey ladies,

Just a quick question. I'm currently 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant and I feel like my bras are already getting too small and my breasts are quite firm/tight. I also feel like my nipples are bigger (especially when they're in their "normal" state).

Could someone tell me if this is normal, or if it doesn't really fit with the number of weeks yet? It's our first baby, so I have absolutely no idea what happens at which week. It's probably different for every woman, but I'm curious to hear your reactions!!

Thanks in advance!

Love, Fem1989

    Hey Fem,
I'm about a week further along than you and I mainly have a lot of breast pain. Not the tight feeling everyone talks about. But I've also been able to see for a while that they are fuller. But not extremely grown or anything. I still fit into my own bras just fine, but I do have the feeling that I'll need to start looking for a size bigger soon. So I think it's quite possible that you already have this too! But for me, it's all first-time stuff.

    Oh absolutely, Fem!!

I wasn't even sure I was pregnant yet (hadn't tested yet).
My husband brought it up and I joked, "It's because of all that milk, right.."
(We had just started our project.)
So that was definitely one of the symptoms you get very early on!!
They felt heavy and from that moment on, I started hating bras!!
I bought some larger sizes but have to admit I'd rather go all day without a bra!!

With my first pregnancy, that was also the first symptom. I had really intense breast pain, and they grew quite a bit too. Already so early in the pregnancy.

Hey Molly, yeah, same here for me, my breasts are super noticeable all day long. Just looking at them makes me feel them haha, maybe I should buy some new ones soon. Also, I can't see anything in my belly yet, can you? I thought I was at the same stage as you, but the first ultrasound showed our little spot was a week younger. It's all quite exciting, isn't it?!

Hi anonymous, thanks for your reply!
Funny that you prefer to take your bra off, I can't even think about it. For me too, this is the first sign. No other symptoms though. Do you have any? Or later on? I'm curious!

My breasts honestly grew in just 1 day.
I'm now 7 weeks pregnant, and last week in the morning everything was still normal, but when I went to put on my pajamas in the evening, it was clear that a change had occurred—they feel very tight in their skin and they're genuinely bigger! Just bizarre!

    Fem,
my belly is sometimes a bit round, but because I’ve lost so much weight due to being so sick during pregnancy, it doesn’t stand out that much.
I do find it all super exciting. Can’t wait for the next ultrasound. Sometimes I’m so scared that the heartbeat won’t be there anymore or something. But it’ll all work out fine.

    Hi Fem,
I’m now a mom of two What followed the growing breasts was extreme fatigue. I literally fell asleep everywhere! This went away around week 14.

    Hi Fem,
By the way, I'm Anoniem from earlier (apparently I wasn't logged in).
No, surprisingly enough, I haven't really had any issues elsewhere either.
Just a bit nauseous and heartburn during the first week.
After that, nothing much, not even any annoying contractions or anything.. (except being very emotional!!)
But my husband has Couvade syndrome, so that's why—he's taken on all the symptoms!

My breasts keep growing though, Woehoe!!
I've been measuring everything monthly, and now at 37 weeks, there's 9 centimeters more around!!
  10. Kelly #11

Wow Olivia! 9cm! Hihi, I want that too! And then just hope that after the birth and breastfeeding and all that, there's still some left over :-)

Yeah, a friend of mine is definitely not exactly a "mom type" (lightly put). When she heard that I definitely want to breastfeed for at least a year, she said:
"Ugh!!! Hundreds of types of formula milk in the world and then you choose those old-lady-saggy-boobs!!" Hahaha!!!

Well, I think like this: Before I hardly had anything, so better saggy boobs later than no boobs at all.. I'll roll them up on a toothpick Hahaha!!!

Whahaaa! Totally agree! I've always had tea bags, so my partner is already used to that! It can only get more intense. But I do hope they start growing a bit more soon. I was so looking forward to it!

I’ve also had issues with my breasts.. and still do regularly.. for me it only started in the 3rd month though, and then I suddenly went up 1 cup size.. I bought a nursing bra that stretches well, but unfortunately, these have now also become too small! Which I’m a bit bummed about.. I don’t really like having such big breasts, I already had a D and now I’m an E, although I’m not sure if the E is even valid anymore since the bras are too small again haha..but it’s all part of the process I’ll be happy if I just get my D back after breastfeeding! And my boyfriend isn’t really keen on it either, he always says, "darling, my hands are too small now, I have no use for the excess" haha... Now I’d also love to just leave my bra off all day, but since I’m already having a lot of colostrum issues in the beginning of the 6th month, we’re better not doing that to avoid embarrassing spots on my blouses hehe..

    Love,

My breasts also started growing in the second month, and sometimes really hurt in the evening when I took off my bra, feeling heavy. Now I'm 26 weeks pregnant and they've grown at least 2 cup sizes, from a small B to a full D. For the last two weeks, I've felt like they're growing again; they feel heavy again and I sometimes have pain in my breasts. Is this normal? How much more will they grow until birth and after? My husband is also very happy about it, thinks it's great.
  16. Mommy-Of-Nyana #17

@Carla, how much they’ll keep growing depends from woman to woman..
but after giving birth they definitely grow a bit more (that’s what my OB said) because then the production really peaks...
I’m already 2 1/2 cups bigger here, had to buy new bras in the end, went from a large D to a small F...and I fear it’s not going to stop...now I’m at the end of my pregnancy though, so maybe (I hope) it’ll slow down now

Hi ladies, when I was 12-13 weeks I had to buy new bras for the first time. These were already "grow-with-me" bras and I really wore them until the end before going back to buy more, and that was at around 27-28 weeks So they grew between my week 26 and now... and they probably could grow up to a cup bigger after birth, my gynecologist said... It also depends a bit on how many milk ducts you have and how they expand (this has nothing to do with your milk production, okay) It's not that more milk ducts means more milk...

Of course, they will also gradually reduce in volume over time and I hope to get back to my D cup...

    Lots of love

I'm a 34-year-old woman, pregnant with twins. My breasts are sore and my nipples are sensitive, but they're not getting heavier. What should I do?

I don't know what's going on, my breasts have gotten huge, my nipples hurt. What could it be?
