Diastasis and hernia

Gave 5 months ago and still have a diastasis of 1.8cm at the widest part and a hernia. Has anyone experienced that it healed after 5 months? Or is 5 months still short?

    Hi LindaT,
I gave birth in 2018 and I have both an umbilical hernia and diastasis. I didn't measure the diastasis in cm, but I know it was about 3 fingers wide for me. For the past few months, I've been working out my abs quite a bit, and my belly has become flatter, and the diastasis has decreased to 2 fingers. Recently, I went to a plastic surgeon for something completely different, and it turned out I also have an umbilical hernia. By the way, no one had noticed or diagnosed it before. I was told that an umbilical hernia doesn't go away on its own; it requires surgery.
The advice I got from her was to do nothing about it until I'm sure I don't want any more children, and then possibly have both the diastasis and the umbilical hernia corrected together.
But the best tip for reducing diastasis is to do a lot of abdominal exercises. Whether the diastasis goes away completely varies from person to person. Also, you need to train a lot and for a long time for it to decrease and/or disappear.
I've been training twice a week for 5 months now, and that has already reduced it by 1 finger. So who knows, maybe in a year there will only be 1 finger of diastasis left. Of course, I'd love to get rid of it completely, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
