What should I do?

Hi everyone!
My boyfriend really wants to name the baby after his dad, even if it’s a girl, but he doesn’t know how... do you know a name that sounds like Loek?

We don’t know yet what it’ll be, and I don’t really like Loek as a first name for a boy, and I wouldn’t know what kind of girl’s name it could be.

Tricky! Are you okay with naming your baby after the father? Otherwise, that's something you might want to talk about first. And as a second name, would you like that or not?
When I think of a name that sounds like Loek, I immediately think of Luca, which works for both a boy and a girl. Or Lucas or Luuk.
For a girl, it's harder; I can't get past Luca.

What we did is use it as a second name because my son won't know his dad, since he passed away almost 4 years ago, and I wanted to give him the name as a second name so my son would have a memory of his late grandfather whom he never met. If it really isn't possible, maybe you could choose this option.

    Lieke for a girl.

Loekie or Lou for a girl.

    Maybe Lanoek for a girl
And also Luca (or Loeka) or Luuk for a boy.

I do know girls named Loekie. I think Loek is nice for a boy. Is that his father's real (official) name, or is it an abbreviation? You can always use it as a second name. Here too, the child is named in the 2nd (and 3rd) name.

Loeka Maybe if it's a girl or Loekela

Tastes differ, of course, but Loekie is a really nice name for a girl, or Loki (unisex). If your name is really Colinda, that's also kind of a reference to you

    For a girl:
Maybe you could combine the loe-sound with a name from your side? So, e.g., if your dad is named Philip, then Philou/Philoe. Or if your mom is Marian, then Malou/Maloe?
Other options with an oe sound:
Loes Loea Loua Louise Milou Lou Anouk Anoek

Manoek, Nanoek, Loeka, Noek, Loe-Ann, Maloe, Loeke.

For a girl, I'd go with Lilou (Lou from LOEk).
I also think Luca is a really beautiful name.
For a boy: Lou, Lukas, ...

    Or a double name?

Double name for a girl with Lou (or Loe):
    Mae-Lou
    Jaimy-Lou
    Resa-Lou

    Wow! So many tips!
I find it really, really difficult, but I really appreciate your input! I'm totally fine with the baby being named after his dad, but I think the name Loek is really quite versatile and easy to build on. I'll discuss the tips and get back to you as soon as possible—other tips are always welcome!!

We're still not decided. My boyfriend is now suggesting Loucinda for a girl, and just Loek for a boy.

I don't think it's really nice. I prefer names like these:
    Bodi
    Cato
    Lizz
    Ravi
  15. Anouk Guest #16

I think Loek is a pretty good name, but I do understand that you want something different.
For a girl, I'd look for a name ending in -lou.
    Like Jalou or Milou.
(or Anouk, which rhymes with Loek)

I also find it harder for a boy.
The only thing I can think of is Luca or Lucas, but that doesn't look very similar.
  16. Liva Guest #17

    I think Luca is super cute for both a boy and a girl! Or Loek as a middle name;
    Martin Loek
    etc.
  17. Anonymous Guest #18

    I completely agree with Liva.
Luca is super cute for both a boy and a girl!
And indeed, maybe just Loek as a second name. And then the nickname whatever you both find nice!
Of course, you both need to be behind the choice. It would be a pity if you later regret it.

Good luck with your choice, I understand it's tough!

    Hi!
    We're currently considering Marlou/Malou/Marloe.
The baby's mom's name was Maria, but I'm not sure which spelling/pronunciation sounds the best.
For a boy, we haven't decided yet.
  19. Anonymous Guest #20

I think Malou is the prettiest even. And if not, Marlou, it has the first three letters of Maria. Malou is a bit more hip.
I like it to end with ou. I would also automatically write it with ou. Just like I would always write Anouk with ou.
