Hypoglycemia at 12 weeks
Fleur24
Hey everyone.
I have a small question regarding gestational diabetes.
At 12 weeks, I went to the hospital for an ultrasound. On the same day, a blood test was also taken to check for infections, blood sugar, blood cells, ... and the NIPT.
At the end of the blood draw, I felt weak, I lost a large part of my vision, a few seconds later I lost my hearing, walking was difficult, ... Since I had to be fasting, I luckily had my bread slices with me. I couldn't take a step without my legs giving way, and I ended up collapsing on the hospital corridor with a piece of bread in my mouth, which I couldn't summon the strength to swallow.
I've been having such episodes for years now, but no diagnosis was ever made. By the way, it's been years since I had such a severe episode. Some (emergency) doctors, neurologists, ... told me it was "between my ears." So, this time at the hospital, I kept my mouth shut. I'm not complaining now. That same week, on Sunday, I could check the blood results online and found out my glucose level was 23 mg/dl. After looking up the effects of hypoglycemia, it turned out this perfectly described what has been going on for years. I went to my GP on Monday, and she had to take a good look. She immediately picked up the phone and called the relevant lab to ask if the blood samples were still available for additional insulin tests. Since I've been waiting for 2 weeks, these samples have probably already been destroyed.
Now, my main question is whether gestational diabetes is possible at 12 weeks.
In 2 weeks, there will be the next ultrasound, so I'll ask more questions then, but right now, I find this quite interesting and want to ask for someone's experience since glucose can fluctuate during pregnancy. But can it fluctuate this drastically without something being wrong?
Greetings and thanks in advance.
