Migraine

Hi, I have a quick question.
I've been in bed for almost 2 days with severe migraine, so bad that I only leave the dark room to pee. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and called the GP regarding medication. They said there's not enough research yet and advised against taking medication. Now I'm really going crazy from the pain, and the GP suggested that if it's not gone tomorrow morning, to take a triptan. Does anyone have experience with this during pregnancy or with migraine in general?

I’ve been through that—3 days of severe migraine. I only took paracetamol for it, but it didn’t help much. It went away on its own after 3 days. Good luck, girl. I hope it clears up soon. Congratulations on your pregnancy too.

    How are you feeling now?

I've had migraines since elementary school, and they got even worse during my pregnancy. I didn't want to take any medication myself, but if I wanted to, I could just go to the GP for safe medication that's allowed during pregnancy. Unfortunately, I don't remember what they're called..

From week 8 to at least week 25, I had sooooo many headaches that I'd rather have walked headfirst into the wall, just to give you an idea. It seemed to get a bit better, but the closer we got to the due date, the more attacks I had. It's definitely related to the hormones.

Do you normally get migraines, or only now?

Thanks for the reply, I haven't taken any medication. I didn't dare to! Since yesterday afternoon, the attack has passed. I've had migraines since I was 14, about twice a month. But the triptans always work for me within half an hour, so I can live with the medication fairly well. The GP told me that migraines often decrease during pregnancy, let's hope for the very best!!

I hope so too, nothing sucks more than that headache! But keep in mind that the chance it gets better is just as big as the chance it gets worse. Otherwise you'll be pretty bummed if it doesn't go away anyway

I used to get migraines once a week. I was on the pill back then, and when I stopped, my migraines disappeared too. After giving birth, I went back on the pill, and the migraine attacks came back. So now I've stopped taking the pill again.

Unfortunately, my migraines didn't stop when I quit the pill... I'm still unsure whether I want to go back on it. I think it's a mess, and I definitely felt better after stopping. I'm even considering a Ladycomp, but since I got pregnant pretty quickly, that feels a bit daunting too. The IUD also has hormones, so that's out of the question.
