Conscious single dad (surrogate mother)

Hi there. I’m a dad to an 8-year-old daughter from my ex (she lives with me most of the time). I’d really like to have another child of my own, ideally with a partner, but I’ve been single for about 5 years now. Lately I’ve been looking into info on becoming a conscious single father, but there’s not much out there. Surrogacy seems to be the only option. But what’s involved? Do I need to go to a notary or something to sort things out legally? I just want to be the sole caregiver for the baby. I’m really curious how it all works.

I think it’s the same as with any other combination of parents where surrogacy is necessary. The government website has information about the regulations surrounding surrogacy and everything that comes with it. The only difference here is that you’re doing this without a partner.

    Hi Papa3,
You won't find much info on the government website (unfortunately). Check out www.zwangervooreenander.nl for info on surrogacy in the Netherlands.
It's a complicated path, but you're not alone. In the Facebook group (search for Zwanger voor een Ander), there's now also a surrogate mother who's going to carry for a single dad. But it's rarer than for a couple.
Have you considered co-parenting? That might be an option too.
