Feeding

Hi ladies,

I was wondering what your 7-week-old babies are drinking. My son drinks a bottle 7 or 8 times a day because he wakes up every 3 hours, even at night. He gets 150ml with 5 scoops. I think it's a lot, but he always finishes it. He won't take less. Sometimes he sleeps a bit longer, and there are up to 3.5 or 4 hours between feeds, so instead of 8 bottles, I can do with 7 per 24 hours. But I still think it's a lot. What do your babies drink?

What does it really matter what they say about our drinking? Every child is different. Your child clearly shows what he needs. That can never be too much. Relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy your son. Follow his needs.

Yes, you're right, every baby is different. But it's because according to those guidelines they're allowed to have 150cc per kilogram of body weight. And this old-school mindset can't let that go. He's probably around 5 kg, so he should be able to have 5x150. So he's actually well above that. I was wondering if it's too much, given his kidneys, but suddenly it says bottle feeding is also on request. Maybe I should indeed let it go.

Just follow your child's cues. I think the kidneys are probably fine. It's much more harmful to let your child go hungry.
