No, Nelleke, I named my daughter that.
But I do understand your reaction—even my own parents thought it was a bit strange and made comments.
I think it's a beautiful name: Dutch, tough, yet also sweet.
Terrible names, sorry. It’s something you give someone for life. Why all these boys’ names with a “tje” at the end? Can’t you find a girl’s name that fits better in society than calling a girl Keeske or Teuntje... just because YOU want to hear people say, “Oh, what a unique name, how nice, how creative you are,” etc... which people will say anyway, whether it’s beautiful or not.
I think it's nice. One is prettier than the other. My sister is called Maartje and has never had any issues with it. My brother just had a daughter, Lotte, but she's now using Lotje as a nickname. She can always change it back to Lotte later on. Might be an idea for you? I think both Noortje and Doortje are nice. Guusje is cool too. Not so much Dirkje. Pien is sweet too! And congratulations!
Anonymous. Those aren't really boys' names with a -tje suffix just to seem original. Most of them are old-fashioned Dutch names that have been around for much longer than the terribly overused versions of Jayden, etc.
I personally wouldn't go with Martijntje. I feel it's too much of a boy's name. But Noortje (Noor), Floortje, Doortje, Sjoukje, and Eefje I think work fine.
Jayden etc are English names. So you can't compare them with the truly Dutch names.
And I get what you mean by anonymous.
GUUSje
DIRKje
DAANtje...
Those are really all boy names with a tje or je at the end.
Tastes differ sooooo much!
Fortunately, we can all choose how we name our little one ourselves. Here it's going to be Floor....we think it's totally great, and whoever thinks differently...can just name their own little one differently
Good luck to everyone in the search!
I think Guusje is really cute! And it's a bit nonsense that it has to be a boy's name with -tje or -je added.
For example, it comes from Augustina or Augusta, and those are definitely female names. (Maybe they come from August, yes, okay, but you can keep going like that).
And a colleague of mine is called Geertje, and she's taken seriously! Although people often shorten it to Geert.
I wouldn't give both twins such names, but you probably wouldn't do that anyway.
Pien and Guusje are super cute!
You think it's nonsense, Alexa. But she's asking what people think, and that's exactly what she gets to hear. The opinions are divided, and rightly so, otherwise everyone would be walking around with the same name!
There's also a big difference between name choices in Belgium and the Netherlands.
I think Pien and Maartje are nice. Or Pien and Noor(tje).
I wouldn't choose a name that can also be a boy's name.
I think Pien is amazing, really so sweet! But I agree with the rest about the "little bear": I'd go for a name that can also be used without 'je' or 'tje', maybe later on.
So maybe: Noortje, Floortje, Brechtje, or Eefje, Fleurtje or Loesje. Maartje and Boukje I also think could work!
But I wouldn't go for: Teuntje, Dirkje, Guusje because they are really boys' names when abbreviated.
And a name ending in 'ke'? I find that sweet too! Aafke, Lieke, Lobke?
But it's your choice! And indeed, Jayden and Kaileigh give me the creeps; I'd rather have Guusje, honestly!
The message above isn't mine, but from some joker.
We still really like the name Pien, so we're definitely going with that name. We're now thinking - after your tips - about a name that still sounds feminine when shortened, like Noortje or Floortje (etc.). Guusje is also still a favorite, we're still hesitating about that one.
