Not pooping...

Hi moms,
I have a son who is now 5.5 months old.
Except for the first two weeks, he rarely poops completely on his own; I usually have to help him by wiping him with a cloth or giving him olive oil.
Now, he hasn’t pooped for over a week already, he’s drinking two bottles less per day, and thus also peeing significantly less, but luckily he’s not dehydrated at all.
He’s having a huge amount of discomfort, especially in the evenings; then he cries his heart out and is inconsolable. During the day, things seem to be going pretty well.
Last Friday evening, I took him to the urgent care clinic because I couldn’t face the weekend like this—it was so pitiful.
I got three enemas and a drink to make the stool softer. All the enemas are used up now, and he only pooped a little bit after each enema, but I have the feeling that it’s not all of it yet.
Does anyone have THE tip so that everything can come out?
The thermometer doesn’t work, the bath doesn’t work, the massage doesn’t work, the olive oil doesn’t work, and the enemas don’t even work anymore.
I really don’t know what to do right now... and it’s so pitiful when he cries and writhes in pain...

Hey girl. My little boy had that too sometimes. I made verbena (lemon verbena) tea for him and then he pooped again. He also didn't poop for a few days. And now I give him that tea from time to time.
I put some in a teapot, then pour boiling water over it and rinse once. Then I fill it and put the pot on the stove until it simmers. Then I put it in his bottle and let it cool down. Give it to him and hopefully he'll poop on his own. I gave it to him from the time he was a week old, if he had cramps.

You're welcome, girl. I know how it feels when your little angel can't poop and you're pulling your hair out.

And did it work out, girl?

My daughter had a lot of trouble pooping from the start, lots of cramps, etc. From 5 weeks on, cow's milk-free formula and she was a completely different baby. Recently did a reintroduction, result: couldn't poop for 4 days... For now, I'm just leaving it out. I'm not saying your baby has that, but I want to mention it as a possibility. You can always see if he starts pooping on his own then.

If the stool that does come out is on the harder side, I’d also just let him drink more water between feeds. You don’t have to be dehydrated to get constipation from not drinking enough fluids.

When she was a baby, my daughter also often had trouble pooping. She always strained hard, and sometimes she wouldn’t poop at all for one or two days. Giving her a little extra water between feeds seemed to help sometimes. Now I personally think a week is really too long... Did the doctor really not suggest anything else or recommend an ultrasound of her intestines? Now that my daughter is a bit older, I make sure she gets plenty of fiber and give her lots of fruit (except bananas, because those can cause constipation again), and I let her drink lots of water. Better to consult another doctor anyway.
