Do you know how long your cycle is? You're already fertile about 5 days before ovulation, since sperm can survive for up to 5 days. So your friend is right—if you have unprotected sex a week before ovulation, there's a chance of pregnancy. Small, but present. -

Oh wait, your period haha! No, then you wouldn't really have much chance a week before, indeed. Unless you have a very short cycle. But if you really don't want to get pregnant, it's better to just not take any risks and use a condom. -
