The discussion everyone knows—whether or not to smoke during pregnancy—but what are your experiences?

I used to smoke 2-3 cigarettes a day, especially at parties and when going out—I often had a cigarette in one hand and a glass of wine in the other!
When I found out I was pregnant (now 27 weeks), I quit right away!
Hopefully, I can quit for good, even after our little girl is born!
During the day, I think I’ll manage, but if I’m allowed or able to have a glass of wine again at birthdays or parties, I should just stay away from it! That might get pretty tricky sometimes, I think....

When the OB-GYN asked if I smoked, I said: “Do women still smoke during pregnancy? Isn’t that so outdated?” The doctor replied that it’s the exception rather than the rule for women to smoke while pregnant. I was, at the very least, stunned. On YouTube, there are videos showing a fetus having to endure a sip of alcohol or a hit of nicotine.

Experiences with smoking and pregnancy? Seriously? Smoking causes dysmaturity in the unborn child. Quit it quickly, or else postpone your desire for children!

Smoking is basically outdated anyway, isn't it? Regardless of whether you're pregnant or not. It's pretty clear by now that it's harmful to the human body in all circumstances. Health insurers now also cover aids to quit smoking because non-smokers generally cost less in healthcare than smokers, especially when it comes to heart, vascular, and lung diseases.

Just want to add that quitting isn't easy. Better never to start in the first place.

    Stop!
Stories that go around saying that quitting smoking causes stress and therefore it's better to just keep smoking... I think it's bullshit. Do you know how much stress women have during pregnancy? Personally, I'd rather have stress than consciously put nicotine into my baby. But everyone decides for themselves, that's what we're adults for. But women who keep smoking shouldn't expect others to just accept it as normal or approve of it.

I quit straight away in August 2017 as soon as I got a positive test. I really think smoking during pregnancy is a total no-go. I’ve kept it up even after, although it was sometimes tricky when I’d have a drink. I’m really, really glad I’m off it.
By the way, I was in a restaurant recently where a pregnant woman just ordered two glasses of wine. I found that quite remarkable too.
