Asherman's syndrome

Tamaara
Hi,
I'm getting really unsure. In late February I had a D&C. After that, I got my period for two months like it always is. For the past two months, I've only had dark brown bleeding during my period. Never had this before. Could it be related to using a panty liner for 6 days? Now I'm afraid I have Asherman's syndrome (adhesions) after the D&C. For two months I've also had a constant feeling of being pregnant, but I'm not. I do get a positive ovulation test every month. Does anyone know about this? Or has anyone experienced the same? I'm really unsure and hope I can get an ultrasound soon

Hi. I don't have experience with Asherman's syndrome, but I do have experience with a curettage. They told me to call for a check-up if I hadn't gotten my period properly after 4 months. So if I were you, I'd go ahead and call.

Thanks Lies, thank you for your message. It's sad that you also had a D&C but luckily you're now 17 weeks pregnant, congratulations! After the D&C, I had two cycles with a nice normal period, but only for the past two months I've had brown bleeding. My cycle is always around 30-32 days. I called today but they were too busy. I'll call again tomorrow to make an appointment.

Yeah, that was a really tough experience. You know all about that, right? Well, I'm happy to say I'm now expecting a beautiful girl! Already 18 weeks and almost there... Hopefully, you'll be able to share the joy soon too!

Hi Lies and Tamaraa, it's indeed a tough situation to go through. Lies, congratulations on your pregnancy. Sounds exciting. Glad it's going well.
Tamaraa, luckily you've already had a good cycle, but it's still good that you're getting it checked.
I had a curettage in April to remove remaining tissue, but still haven't gotten my period. I now need to go for tests to rule out Asherman's syndrome. I also didn't want a curettage due to the (relatively small) risk of complications. That's why I tried everything first to do it in the most natural way possible.

    Hi Iris,
I had an ultrasound today and luckily everything looked good. My uterine lining was very thick, and I should get my period this weekend. Although I hope not, of course. They couldn't tell from the ultrasound if I was pregnant, but they also couldn't rule it out. So we'll have to wait and see.
It's so sad that you went through the same thing. Hopefully, your period starts soon and you don't have Asherman's syndrome. I'm rooting for you. Do you have to wait a long time for the tests?

Tamaraa, that's great that everything looked good, with a thick uterine lining. Hope something nice implants and you don't get your period.
I'll get a message when the procedure is scheduled. I hope to hear about it tomorrow! Otherwise, I'll call. I'm also going on vacation soon and want to know before then. And I'm also hoping my period will start on its own. Waiting is pretty tough in this situation, isn't it?

Oh that's so awful Iris, that you also had to go through a D&C. I was told back then, since I was 8.5 weeks when the loss happened, that up to 9 weeks it might have an effect, but after that it mostly just causes a lot of pain and misery. So I chose to go ahead with a D&C right away. It's unreal when you wake up and have lost even more blood than during the birth of my daughter. And what great news for Tamaara!!! Now hoping that a placenta will implant

Had a hysteroscopy and unfortunately it's Asherman's syndrome. Now being referred for a procedure to a specialized hospital. What a hassle, especially when you just want to move forward.
  9. Lies #10

That's so sad, Iris! Now let's hope everything gets removed properly so you can try again.

Oh Iris, that's really tough for you! So still ( Take good care of yourself and hope you can get pregnant again soon. I don't know if you live in the Netherlands, but the Spaarne Hospital is specialized in Asherman. Wishing you lots of strength and success in the coming days
  11. Iris #12

Thank you so much, girls. Indeed, it's really crap. And you're right, Tamara, I'm being referred to Spaarne Hospital. It's the only specialized clinic in the Netherlands.

    Hi Iris,

How are you? And how are you feeling? I hope you got to see someone at Spaarne quickly
  13. Iris #14

Hi Tamara, that's so sweet of you to ask. Haven't been feeling too great these past few days. Lots of pain/cramps. Probably should have been my period, but I can't go anywhere because of Asherman. I can only get help in early September, so I have to wait and see, not easy. Some days are better than others.
    How are you doing?

Oh, that's so disappointing, Iris, that you can only get help then. It doesn't happen very often, but still often enough. Hang in there, girl, it will get better, it just takes a while. Easy to say than done. It's completely logical that your feelings go up and down. Can you express your feelings to those around you? Hopefully, the pain will lessen soon. I'm thinking of you and sending you a big digital hug!

I really shouldn't complain, given everything you're going through. But last month I finally tested positive again, and unfortunately, I had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I got terrible cramps It really sucks! I've been using wheat germ oil since this month, but I still haven't been able to find my egg properly. We'll just wait and see.
  15. Lies #16

That's so unfortunate, Iris! And then having to wait a few more weeks—will you get help right away or first have an intake session?

My husband's ex had to have it removed twice, but it never went away. She was declared infertile and got a daughter with her new boyfriend two years ago... totally unexpected, of course. This is obviously a worst-case scenario, right... and it could just go away after one scan. What do you think is more likely

    Anyway, good luck!

Thanks, ladies. I do share my feelings with important people in my life, and there's space for that. Since not much is known yet, I think many people have ideas. Just a small bump, an operation, and then back on track. It comes in different degrees, and the risk of recurrence is less clear. But I try not to focus too much on the worst-case scenarios; that doesn't make me happier and doesn't help me.

First, I'll have an intake, and then I'll hopefully find out when the operation is.

Tamaraa, I'm so sorry you had another miscarriage. It's not at all complaining. This is happening to you, and it's tough and upsetting. First cautious joy after a positive test, and then again disappointment. Sending you a hug too.

Iris, how are you? And how are you feeling? I hope you've already had your intake appointment, or at least that's what I'm hoping. Do they know anything more yet? Hopefully, it's not too bad and they can help you soon

    Hi Tamaara,
That's so sweet of you to think of me. I haven't been on this forum for a while because my focus was elsewhere. I had surgery in early October and already had my follow-up appointment. Fortunately, everything looked good, so I can finally continue with the process. Patience has been put to the test.
    How are things with you?

    Hey Iris,
What super nice news! I'm really happy for you that everything is okay now. Finally, you can move forward. I hope it'll be successful soon for you. Yes, patience is indeed a virtue, pfff izzy:
Everything's good here, I'm pregnant again now, almost 12 weeks. Already had two beautiful ultrasounds. Still feeling unsure and nervous about it all. I'm just really nauseous and have been throwing up a lot these past weeks, but luckily it's been a bit better since today.
