Not immune to CMV

Lilith
Hi everyone.

On Monday I had blood drawn to confirm my pregnancy and check my immunity to certain viruses.

And sure enough, I'm pregnant! Yay!

However, it turns out I have no immunity to toxoplasmosis (I didn't have it in my previous pregnancy either) or to CMV.

I find this quite difficult. My daughter and I have a little ritual where she puts her pacifier in my mouth when she sits on my lap in the morning to drink her bottle; she finds it HI-LA-RIOUS, and now I can't do that anymore. :-(

Are there any other people here who aren't immune to CMV? How do you handle it?

Best,
Lilith

Congratulations on your pregnancy. What a sweet little ritual. How old is your daughter? Maybe you can already teach her to drink from a regular cup and stop using the pacifier. That way, you won't have to keep saying no when she wants to join in your little ritual. Or you'll have to come up with a different little ritual.

My little girl turned 1 last month.
She does drink quite a bit from a cup, but she finds it so much more fun to drink from a big-kid glass. I've now taught her to drink from a straw, and thankfully she likes that too.
Or do you mean drinking all her milk from a cup in the evening? That feels a bit too early to me, or am I seeing that wrong?
Her dummy is mainly used for sleeping; thankfully she can manage without it during the day.
Well, the routine is mostly hard for me to let go of. I'm just accepting her dummy now, and as long as she gets her bottle, she's happy. ????

The risk of infection isn't that big. And there's nothing wrong with whether you let your baby drink from a cup or not before bedtime. Sometimes it's really practical to give the bottle in the bedroom. I only stopped the bottle when she was 1 year old after a few weeks, but she also had her last meal at 7 PM right before going to sleep. And those few sips of water if she woke up again, I helped with that. My child is now 18 months and has been completely bottle-free for 2 months, so that's only recent. You should stop when you feel confident about it. 1 year is still pretty young.

Thanks Falca! There are so many hormones raging through my body right now due to my pregnancy that I really start doubting myself a lot.
