My story
NoortjeKop
Hi everyone,
I'd like to share my story with you all. I notice that many people (partially) have (had) the same problems as I did. But the follow-up and outcome are often not mentioned…
On March 6, 2017, I stopped the pill because I wanted a child. Since I am healthy and live healthily, I assumed I would get pregnant quickly. My age was also positive: 24 years old, so still young.
Unfortunately, it went differently… After four weeks, I expected my period. But it didn't come. Being positive as I am, I thought: yeees, pregnant in one go! But the test told a different story. After months of waiting for a period, I decided to go to the GP in June 2017.
The GP told me this wasn't normal and had blood tests done. My hormone levels and thyroid turned out normal. A vaginal examination followed. Again, nothing could be found. But he did see something else: restless cells! I was really scared! The GP explained that this could be caused by the HPV virus and that it could be a pre-stage of cervical cancer. A smear test was taken. At the same time, an appointment was made for an internal ultrasound with a gynecologist.
The ultrasound showed that there were many cysts on the ovaries. Clearly PCOS, the gynecologist stated. He told me that it wasn't possible to get pregnant naturally and referred me to a fertility clinic. Moreover, he said that I had never had a normal period in the first place. I started the pill quite early because I bled heavily (well, we thought it was a period, but according to the gynecologist, these were breakthrough bleeds). That was quite a pill to swallow…
And meanwhile, I was waiting for the result of the smear test. That wasn't easy either: PAP 3a1, but without HPV. But, as the GP told me, that didn't necessarily mean it wouldn't become a pre-stage of cancer. In six months, a new smear test had to be done.
I postponed a visit to the fertility clinic. First, I wanted clarity about the PAP. So, wait six months and do a new smear test. During the six months of waiting, however, I did get my period. But yes, with the gynecologist's story in the back of my mind, I thought it was breakthrough bleeding…
The new smear test brought enormous relief: PAP 1! Phew, that problem was tackled! Now we went all out for getting pregnant! So, made an appointment with the fertility clinic! Meanwhile, I had bleeding every four weeks.
Who would have guessed our surprise when we were at the fertility clinic: here the gynecologist saw nothing that looked like PCOS! Everything looked neat and she saw no reason why I couldn't get pregnant naturally! Ashamed, she sent us home with the message that I should be pregnant within a year and otherwise come back. She found the whole story so bizarre! She did have my blood tested for progesterone though, and that looked fine!
How confused can you be?! I really didn't know what to believe anymore… Half a year ago, I was told in two days that I had PCOS and could never get pregnant naturally. AND that I had PAP 3A1. Now, half a year later, there was nothing wrong AND I had PAP1.
On April 19th, I visited the fertility clinic and on April 23rd I got my period. And now?! It's REALLY true! I am now eight weeks pregnant!
I still find my story so unbelievable! How can a gynecologist be so wrong? And what I find even worse: how bizarre that it takes so long for the pill to wear off in your body. It took eight months before I got my period for the first time! And how can the medical world say that something like that isn't possible? Both the GP and the gynecologist told me that the pill wears off in your body within a day. Nice one!
My conclusion: there is truly more between heaven and earth and more than the medical world can explain. And now? Enjoying my pregnancy and going to the midwife and for an ultrasound for the first time on Thursday!
It's a long story, but I'm curious if anyone recognizes (somewhat) themselves in this story!
