Do you think Raf is a nice boy's name or more like a dog's name?

I think Raf is a cool boy's name, it's been at the top of my list for a long time, derived from Rafael.
I find Rafael a bit too ordinary as a call name.
But doesn't Raf sound a bit too commanding?
Also, my husband is named Rob. Can this combination work? I saw somewhere on a forum DeRob and DeRaf....
