Can I eat this?

I had a few pieces of dry salami this afternoon because my mother-in-law said it wouldn't hurt. Now I'm reading in certain places that it's completely not allowed. Does anyone know if it's harmful?

On the Nutrition Center website, you'll find advice on what's sensible and not so sensible to eat, along with the reasons behind it. Don't lose sleep over it if you've eaten something once that's on the "don't eat" list. That doesn't mean you've committed a deadly sin. Usually, the reason is that there's a chance certain pathogens could be present in the food. This doesn't mean you've automatically ingested those pathogens; it could also just be that you got lucky and happened to eat the piece that didn't have them. Just try to remember not to pick it up next time.

Dried sausage is discouraged because it falls under the category of raw meat, so bacteria could be present. You can eat it if it has been heated, though. For example, a piece of chorizo from an appetizer platter is better not eaten because it hasn't been heated. But if it's on your pizza fresh out of the oven, it's no problem because it has been heated.

If you're unsure, I think there's also an app you can download on your phone to always check whether something is safe to eat.
