pregnant and lifting a Maxi-Cosi

Hi ladies! I found out yesterday that I’m pregnant: so happy of course!! But I’ve got a question right away that’s been on my mind. Maybe you can help me out.. Our little boy is just eight months old now, and still in the Maxi-Cosi, and he’s really heavy to lift. I have to take him to daycare three times a week, and I also take him out with me regularly. Is it still okay to carry him (I don’t really know how else to do it), or do you have any tips? I’d love to hear from you!! Thanks in advance!

Lifting a Maxi-Cosi doesn't seem like a problem in the early stages of pregnancy. You just have to be more careful in the last few weeks because of your pelvis... I have to admit that I always found a Maxi-Cosi quite heavy, maybe you could already use a car seat!

I took my little boy out of the Maxi-Cosi instead of always lifting the Maxi-Cosi. I left the Maxi-Cosi in the car.

Yeah, I did that too, sweetheart. I live in an apartment, and carrying that Maxi-Cosi got way too heavy.

    T's heavy stuff

Hi, just reply here, it's just as easy, right? My son is 7 months old and it's getting too heavy for me too, but I'm not pregnant hehe. I think it's better if we switch to a buggy and car seat. My question now: which car seats do you have or recommend? I'm so unsure because there are so many types, sizes, and brands that I just don't know myself...

The advice is to keep them in the Maxi-Cosi for as long as possible. That's because it's safe; they're transported facing the opposite direction of travel. I thought it was a shame that my little boy didn't fit in it anymore; he was really cramped with his shoulders...

Yeah, but I noticed that almost all the car seats I looked at can also be installed facing the rear. And his feet are already sticking out a lot from the Maxi-Cosi.

Yeah, they're pretty pricey.. But very safe!
It's no big deal if the feet stick out! Even the head can stick out as long as the ears don't.

Oh, okay, I didn't know that. So there's no rush, right? I'm just such a wimp, almost 8 kilos, but it's really hard for me to lift myself out of the jet seat haha. The car still works fine though, it's much lower.

There are now also car seats for group 0-1. Up to 9 kg, you place the car seat facing backward, and from 9 kg, you place it facing forward. These are also handy because you can lay them a bit flatter when the baby is sleeping.

Super light! No, I also stopped carrying him around after 7 months. Now mister is almost 11 kg and I do have to lift him if we want to get somewhere, even up and down the stairs. Regarding the first question, I'd just go for convenience and not carry anything unnecessary. I'm now teaching my son to climb the stairs himself, which at least saves effort on the way there!

I have a Cybex Serena with Isofix myself. It's a fixed car seat that can be used from birth up to about 4 years old. For very little ones, there's also a seat reducer available as an accessory. You can first install it rear-facing and later forward-facing. The only downside is that you have to leave it in the car, but I never saw that as a disadvantage because I didn't like the hassle of carrying a Maxi-Cosi anyway. I preferred using a sling and the stroller. It was quite an expensive purchase, but since I'd be using one seat for 4 years, I think it's worth it. My little one is now 15 months old and haven't had a single moment of regret.

Leave the Maxi-Cosi in the car and use a stroller that's easy to fold for short trips, as long as your little one can't walk yet. Saves you a lot of unnecessary hassle.
