Bump underarm/chest

Hey ladies, just a quick question.. About 2.5 weeks ago I got a breast infection in my right breast. The redness and pain have gone away thanks to antibiotics, leaving behind a small (maybe 1 mm) rock-hard lump. I have the feeling that it's slowly going down, which the GP also confirmed. Earlier this week I felt a small lump in my left armpit, just under the hairline, so to speak. It was numb and small. I went to the GP right away. She felt a small pea-sized lump and said that during her own pregnancy she had whole bunch of little lumps under her armpits?! She told me not to worry and just check it once a week. I can't stop touching it and now it's become a swollen and irritated pea for me that I feel right away. You can't see anything on the outside. I'm pretty panicked (hypochondria) and was wondering if any other pregnant ladies have experienced this?! Xx

During pregnancy, your breasts are constantly changing. So they can feel hard, soft, smoother, and then irregular again. It's due to the hormones. Always good to keep an eye on it, of course. Good that you went to the GP for a check-up. But because you keep touching it, the lump can also get irritated. So try not to touch it for a while and check again after a few days. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, it's true, I'm indeed quite irritated because it's my own fault... The GP wasn't happy about it either. It's just an inflamed gland. I can come back in two weeks. They'll also take another look at the lump/thickening from the breast inflammation...

    Hi Noortje,

I also had a severe breast infection and had a lump in my armpit back then. It hurt too. But those are your lymph nodes that swell up and/or get inflamed. Now, every now and then, I think I feel them again, and when I touch them, I get discomfort again. I guess I'm doing it to myself. The doctor told me back then that it's often not harmful if they're swollen. Just keep an eye on them and try not to touch them too much.

Hi mamaN, the lump under my armpit is almost gone, and I’m indeed not touching it too much anymore. The spot where I had mastitis still has a tiny little bump, about the size of a grain of rice... I suspect it won’t go away either (scar tissue from the infection?!) since it’s right under the skin of my scar from a previous breast reduction. I’m trying not to think too much about it and just cheerfully count down the two weeks until my GP visit. Thanks, MT, for your reply

You always jump to the worst-case scenario too... I always find lumps and stuff really scary. I was already planning my own funeral just from being so scared of it. It's probably nothing, so don't stress unnecessarily! Love

Yes, exactly that how crazy can you get yourself, huh.. it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks like this (so worked up). Thank you for your lovely messages! Xxx
