Struggling with eating healthy.

MOM2B
Hi ladies,

I've been struggling a lot with eating healthy since I was 7 weeks pregnant. I have a strong aversion to vegetables and get cravings for junk food, sweets, cookies, chocolate, chips, etc.

I thought this would pass, but unfortunately, it hasn't.

Does anyone else relate to this? Is there someone who wants to tackle this together?

I'm worried that my baby won't get enough nutrients this way, and I'd also like to feel a bit fitter again

Best,

Hi there, same here! I didn't really like eating veggies during my last pregnancy, preferring bread instead, and now it's happening again. I figure it's better to eat something than nothing! You could take some extra vitamins for peace of mind, because even women with an HG pregnancy have healthy babies. It's amazing how nature takes care of itself!

Try to snack a bit healthily; everything that comes in needs to go out again, right? Apples, bread instead of junk food.

And in your first trimester, you often don't feel well—tired, nauseous, other unpleasant stuff. But it gets better in the second trimester! Wishing you a lovely pregnancy!

Don't worry too much, mom2b. In the first period (up to about 9.5 weeks), I really only had a craving for fat, bread, and carbs. I ate potato croquettes with fish sticks (? Haha) and didn't even think about boiled vegetables. After that, I could eat more varied again, although still feeling nauseous. Try to have something every 2 hours; you just need more in the beginning to avoid feeling so faint. Also try some other things; I was never crazy about apples, but then I could suddenly appreciate them as a snack. Same with bananas and tangerines. And I occasionally had a fruit shake (watch out for fruit sugars), to get some veggies/fruit in anyway. I didn't gain any weight (at least until 12 weeks, after that I didn't weigh myself anymore), despite all that fatty (and in my opinion unhealthy) food.

    Good luck!

It's pretty special that that's just possible, right! I'm now 14.5 weeks, so the first trimester is already over, but oh well..
Up to 12 weeks I indeed didn't gain anything, but now suddenly quite a bit..
That's a downside of course, but the health of both of us is even more important!

I'll grab some fruit later to give it a try! Who knows..

I’ve got some weird cravings too, arretjescake, boterkoek, and oliebollen, but I don’t have any of that at home, so I’m stuck with sultana cookies or just a plain white bread roll..
It’ll probably get better little by little. Just a month of patience and then see how you feel? You’ll probably have that promised energy by then, let’s hope so!

Here we go haha who knows I might indeed need a bit longer. My blood pressure is also super low so I get dizzy and feel weird at the slightest thing.
Not bringing it into the house is smart indeed.. tough for the rest but good, it works!

Oh low blood pressure, so relatable! Annoying, right, getting breathless from climbing stairs, not rushing off when you stand up and all that.. Do you feel a bit better now? I was less tired for 3 days but today it's really serious again! And how's it going with the fruit? It makes me a bit nauseous

    No, not really better unfortunately..
Yes, I tried an apple and a banana these past days. Didn't really like it but managed to get it down haha cookies candy etc are still going down much better grrr

By the way, how far along are you now, sweetheart?
  10. Hartje #11

Good job! I always eat with my son when he's having his apple, it's tasty, maybe an idea to prepare it differently, like grating or something.
Now 11 weeks, so I have good hope that it'll get better soon for me! Last pregnancy the peak was at 12 weeks but I already had a peak at 9 weeks with the nausea, so who knows..
Now 15 weeks with you? They often say 16 weeks when the symptoms really go away, so keep your fingers crossed!
  11. Hartje #12

Haha, well I just threw up for the first time in a week. We're going for it..
By the way, I still haven't come across any oliebollen, and to bake them myself now..

Raspberries are definitely worth a try, hihi, clever! Hope you feel better soon!
Ah, I didn't know about the 16 weeks, now I'm at 15 so who knows fingers crossed..
I had that with vomiting too, it was gone for a week and then suddenly came back twice. After that, it stayed away until now.
Haha, haven't run into any?? I've already had 5 this year, apple fritters instead of Dutch doughnuts. More my thing haha.
Here, I haven't really managed to cut down on sweets yet. Will have a look today if I can maybe grab a healthier alternative! Tips are welcome haha

So I'm eating kiwi, banana, apple, and oopsies, Pringles—they weren't supposed to be there How about you? Have you finally reached the magical 16 weeks and feeling better?
  14. MOM2B started this #15

Well, at least you're eating fruit now! As long as you're just sticking to Pringles, it's not that bad haha.
Here I'm still having real food cravings.. I don't feel better yet either, but who knows, maybe that'll come soon! Almost 16 weeks indeed.
I just found out that you shouldn't eat too much cinnamon, and I've been eating bags of pepernoten and speculaas for weeks now ???? That doesn't sit quite right with me..

I still find it really hard to switch off the cravings.. if you have any tips, they're welcome haha

Good morning! I see that it’s already been 4 months since you guys replied, but I was wondering how you’ve been doing? I’m 21 weeks pregnant now and have already gained 8 kilos. I eat too many chips in the evenings and also really love bread with cheese. It makes me feel discouraged every day. When I wake up, I regret it and think about how I’m going to improve, until that binge eating urge comes around the corner again. Oh, and I also have low blood pressure.

I'm pregnant now and honestly don't feel like eating healthy either. I'm at 10 weeks now and haven't gained any weight yet. Did you start gaining weight from the 14th week? Was that because of everything you ate in the period before? Or did you only change your diet from the 14th week? I'm really scared of gaining too much weight.
