PGD/IVF experiences?

Hi!

Since I'm a carrier of an X-linked syndrome, we're going for PGD treatment.
I have my first appointment with genetics at UZ Ghent on December 5th.
I'm feeling quite stressed. I'm not really sure what to expect. I got a bit of info over the phone, but not enough to feel reassured.
When does the DNA testing on the embryos actually start? And how fast is it? Will the embryos be frozen anyway? Or can one be transferred already on day 5?

What experiences do you all have?

I would have just started, but now I'm spontaneously pregnant with a healthy baby.
Didn't you have an info day?

No experience yet, but we're starting soon.
We had an initial consultation at UZ Ghent.
The embryos will definitely be frozen since the testing takes a while. So the transfer will be in the next cycle. If you're regular, this happens in a natural cycle.
I'm having a hysteroscopy this Friday (for the second time). The doctor wants to be sure everything is fine inside and that my C-section scar has healed nicely.
Then we wait until January 2nd for the next consultation. I was allowed to go on Friday to listen in if someone else had a miscarriage earlier, so I'll be doing that too

The biggest hurdle here is that they aren't sure if they can test for my condition in Ghent. They were going to consult with genetics, but so far I haven't heard anything... If they can't test, we'll have to go to Jette. Unless that test doesn't exist in Belgium yet. And then I have no idea where or how we'll end up. That's what I'm most scared of.
I suffer from a rare genetic disorder, hence the worries.

It feels nice to share everything here with you. We're on the same track and the timeline will probably match up once we can really start.

    Hi,
I'm just following along for now.
Right now, they're still looking into which gene my condition is linked to. Normally, they should know by around April 2019, and then the next step will follow for me. I'd love to read more here about how things should go from there...

I hope you get the results soon. For me, it was very clear quickly. When we wanted to start, I got pregnant naturally with a beautiful girl. So miracles still happen!

    Hi,
We're also looking to start the PGD process, but we heard there's a waiting list of 1.5 years in the Netherlands. Is it different in Belgium/Germany? Are treatments covered in Belgium and Germany? And how much?
    Which insurance do you have?

Hi, we just requested a referral and are still waiting for an invitation, but we're also going through this process. Good luck! Greetings.

    Hey everyone!

I’d really like to follow along here. I have an X-linked muscle disease. We’re already doing various tests at UZA, but we can only visit genetics on Jan 16th... We’re currently taking care of all the preliminary tests so everything is in order before we start the rest.

Does anyone have any idea when IVF would effectively start? I might be jumping the gun a bit, but I’d really like to get pregnant next year, with a healthy little baby.. ????

    Best, Laura!

    Hey,
We've been working on a PGD treatment for a while now because I carry a genetic disorder. The first time, I had so much hope. Everything went well—we had 5 fertilized eggs that were healthy and would be frozen. But on day 5, everything went wrong; even the doctors don't know what happened. None of the eggs could be frozen, so attempt 1 failed. I was mentally shattered. We're now starting attempt 2. New good mood then. I hope we get good news this time because such a treatment is emotionally very draining, I think. Especially when suddenly everyone around you can get pregnant.

Greetings and lots of success to everyone.

    Heyy Sof87,

We're currently working on it. Here are the answers to your questions:
You first get hormones to make your eggs grow. These are then removed during a puncture. After that, they are fertilized one by one using the ICSI method. Then on day 5/6, they check if they are developing well. A biopsy is taken from the embryos, and that biopsy is tested. Based on that, you'll find out if the embryo is healthy (without genetic abnormalities or serious illness).
Yes, the embryos from which a biopsy has been taken are always frozen because they only start testing whether they are healthy or not after that, which takes a few weeks.
So you won't get a fresh transfer.
Hopefully, I've explained it clearly enough.

    Hi everyone,
I came here because I feel like I need a "nest" to talk and read experiences from people who understand what we're going through.
Here's our story so far in brief:
In 2018, we decided to start trying for a baby. I didn't expect much trouble since I already have a healthy 9-year-old son from another man.
After half a year, I was diagnosed with PCOS because my period didn't start after removing my Implanon. We then used medication to induce ovulation 7 times, but no successful pregnancies resulted.
After that, they decided to examine my husband as well. He turned out to have a balanced translocation, which increases the chance of a hereditary disorder. Soon after, we were referred to an IVF PGT program.
After all the tests and waiting periods, unfortunately, corona hit, and the treatments were put on hold. But now it's finally time to start again.
This month, I've started injecting hormones, and on November 24th, there's an ultrasound to check if the egg development is going well.
After all the setbacks, I find myself afraid to hope that it will work out this time.
People around me don't always make it easier by asking weekly for the past two years if it's worked yet. It makes it heavier for me. On every birthday or other occasion, everyone comes up to me and keeps asking. If I say I don't want to explain the story 10 times but just want to have a nice evening without thinking about it, I only get sideways looks from my family.
Does anyone have tips on how to deal with this?
I'd love to hear others' experiences.
