Trying for the first baby

Etil
Good afternoon everyone,
Tomorrow I'm going to the doctor to have my Mirena IUD removed after 2 years. And even though I know I'm really, really ready to become a mom, I still find it all quite nerve-wracking. That's why I signed up here—to get it off my chest and hear about your experiences.
I've heard that it can happen very quickly after getting an IUD removed, but I've also heard the opposite stories.
Any experiences to share?

Welcome, sweetheart, and it's nice that you're joining the conversation! I don't have any experience with IUDs myself! By the way, did you find them easy to get?

Good luck with the wonders of getting pregnant!! Love!

I don't have any experience with an IUD, but I did use the pill. I think it varies from person to person how quickly you get pregnant. The women around me said it took a long time for everyone after stopping various contraceptives. I was pregnant after just one month of stopping. There's no general rule! Just keep enjoying and don't stress too much. Good luck anyway x

Hi hi, I had a copper IUD, 2 weeks later a positive test????

I also had a Mirena IUD. Exactly one year ago today, it was removed, but I'm still not pregnant. I had very irregular periods for the first few months, but since then, I've had the same cycle every month.
    Good luck!!!

In May 2017, I had my copper IUD removed, but unfortunately, we're still not pregnant. So now we're in the 4th month. I hope to be able to post a "positive" message soon. Good luck!

How was it actually to give birth with an IUD? Are you planning to get one again later?
  7. m. #8

The copper IUD was ideal, so they're putting it back in.
  8. Merel #9

What did you find nice about it?
  9. m. #10

    No more hormone complaints, heeeerlijk.
  10. Merel #11

That sounds tempting, hihi! Was that also the reason you chose it the first time? And which round are you in now?
  11. m. #12

Yes, I didn't want any more hormones.

I had the IUD removed on August 11th and got a positive test on August 24th. I'm about 5 weeks pregnant now.

I really didn’t want any hormones at all anyway. I stopped the pill and switched to the copper IUD.
I have to be honest; getting the IUD inserted wasn’t fun. I had my GP do it (free of charge), since she’s also certified to do so. We just had to pay for the IUD itself (I think it was around €50 back then).
After the insertion, I had mild cramps for about two days because it’s still a “foreign object” in your uterus, and your body tries to push it out. After that, no more issues.
But looking back, I can only say I’d definitely go back to the copper IUD! It’s ideal. You get your sex drive back (mine had dropped to freezing point), you feel better in your own skin, and you don’t have those artificial hormones!

Deb, that sounds appealing! It's funny that you also notice you're more in the mood for sex without hormones! My husband really doesn't want me to go back on the pill! When I was taking it, he was usually the one initiating, and we only had sex once a week! When I stopped, I was more in the mood than he was, hehe!

Did you also notice that sex is more enjoyable?
  14. D.L. #15

    Merel,
Absolutely. When I was on the pill (for over 15 years), I just noticed that our relationship felt more like "siblings" and I really never had any desire. It always had to be initiated by my husband, and often it was just a quickie to "get it over with." I think that almost immediately after I stopped taking the pill, I started feeling more desire, and I also felt those butterflies in my stomach when I looked at my husband. The feelings of being in love were back, something I hadn't felt in years. Our relationship definitely improved. When we weren't trying to have kids yet, we could have sex about 3-4 times a week. And... quickies are almost non-existent now! We take good time for each other

    Hi Etil!
How nice that you're going for it. My boyfriend and I have agreed to have my IUD (Mirena) removed in April due to our desire for a child, so I'm also curious how long it will take for me to get pregnant.

Besides that, I think I feel the same as you... I'm really looking forward to it, but since we've set a fixed time to start trying, I've noticed that I suddenly feel a bit anxious because everything is so new. Really strange.
  16. Merel #17

Debstar, it's really nice to read that I'm not the only one! It's like I wrote it myself how it went for us too! And what I also notice is that I get wet faster (and more), which is really nice for sex! We just had a little one now, so we're taking things slow with sex again!
Florien, welcome! And I think everyone has that anxious feeling! How will I be as a mother? Can I handle it? Etc... I can tell you that you definitely can, a little one is truly so beautiful!!
  17. Florien #18

Thank you! I really appreciate you saying that, Merel. It really puts me at ease. New things and situations are always a bit nerve-wracking, of course. But it also seems so beautiful. Thanks for your kind response!
Have you just had your first baby?
  18. Merel #19

Hi Florien, love you!! Yes, we're on our first one now, so I totally get your feelings. The first few weeks can be pretty intense, but our maternity care provider explained a lot and helped us experience things. There's also the child health clinic, and the midwife practice has lots of nice initiatives so you can learn things and connect with other new parents! It's really nice that you can text some girls when you're unsure!

And after a few weeks, you get to know each other well too. A little one has their own rituals, which helps you understand them better! It can definitely be exciting, but it's also brand new, right? Big kiss!

Is Etil still there? Is the coil easy to remove?
