Are there any people here with experience with a reflux or silent reflux baby?

Hey Anoniem22, I see your topic is already a few weeks old, but I’m responding anyway. After two really tough weeks with a baby who was crying more and more, we finally went to the pediatrician the day before yesterday, and they now suspect hidden reflux in our little girl. We’re supposed to start giving her Zantac (ranitidine), but she hates the taste and ends up gagging, so she spits it all back up . Any tips on how we can still give it to her?

Oh, so much better.. more and more babies are having trouble with it. We have the same medicine, 1.5 ml 2x per day. My son doesn't like it either and struggles a lot to get it out again. I tilt his head slightly back and then gently squirt the syringe empty twice. Let him lie back for a bit and hold a spit cloth against his mouth so everything stays inside.. Have you already asked if it can maybe be mixed with the bottle? Or do you give it, for example, with

I'm breastfeeding, so mixing it into a bottle is a bit tricky. But I could ask the doctor if it's allowed, so I could just pump a little and give it that way. I'm reading a lot of conflicting info online about whether it's okay to mix it or not, and whether it should be given before or after feeding. Did you see a quick improvement with the medication?

Hmm, I'll ask the pediatrician about it. I did see improvement after three days, but I have to say I tried several things, so I can't guarantee it was purely from the medication. We tilted the crib more, I keep him more upright for about half an hour after feeding so things settle properly, try to walk often in a carrier instead of the Maxi-Cosi, and I switched to hypoallergenic formula. I also let him lie on his tummy a lot (to strengthen), always under supervision. According to the doctor, reflux gets better as babies get stronger, so lots of tummy time. By the way, I give the medicine for reflux once in the morning and once in the evening. We also swaddle our little one in Zyn sleep sacks. I was also advised to put a pillow in the crib so he lies more upright, and to hold the baby tilted when changing instead of lifting the legs. I didn't use those last two tips, but maybe they'll help you... Good luck!

Hi snowflake, how are you doing with the reflux? I've been using the medication for 2 months now and I'm allowed to slowly taper off at the end of this month.

Ladies, we also had a reflux baby here. Luckily, he grew out of it by 1.5 years old, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Yes, I have a question. How long and which medications did you give?

We were going to taper off, but since the little one is drooling more and more and then has to cry, the doctor thinks it's reflux after all. I was giving 2x 1.5 ml per day, but that was calculated based on Zyn's weight of 3400 grams. He now weighs 6 kilos. The doctor thinks that because we didn't increase it, but he's getting more food, he's getting more discomfort. So we're staying on this medication, same amount. Plus, we just stopped with the thickener. I think it's too much to stop the medication too.

We gave them medication until 16 months. Omeprazole.

That's long and already made me stressed.
Three months isn't that long though,
    It's reassuring.

We were told by the doctor to try weaning off after 6 weeks (so 3 weeks left), but it feels like she'll just start having issues again. I notice from her behavior that milk is coming back often, but luckily with the medication she doesn't have any pain from it anymore. If it's still like this in 3 weeks, I'll ask if we can continue with the medication for a while longer before trying to wean off.

By the way, I just read that one of the tips is to put them on their tummy a lot. I have to admit I do that very little now because she regurgitates much more milk that way than when I hold her upright or with her back against a pillow. Maybe I should try that more often then.

Oh, and I've also started eating dairy-free myself, and that seems to really help (I'm still breastfeeding partially). I did a few tests drinking a glass of milk and afterwards she seemed to have more issues. And for the bottles, hypoallergenic formula. Switching from breastfeeding to formula has caused her to have much more colic now. I hope it's just a temporary phase because she's sleeping much worse because of it (and I am too )

How strange that you're only allowed to use it for 6 weeks? We both gave the same medications. And yes, a lot of tummy time. I do it standard every hour after feeding so it has settled a bit first.
