When sick and when pregnant?

Hi everyone,

I'm 9 weeks pregnant now and have been feeling really awful since yesterday. I've had severe pregnancy symptoms for the past few weeks. Nausea is the main problem.

But since yesterday I've felt genuinely "sick." I just don't know if I'm actually ill or if this is just part of the pregnancy.

If I weren't pregnant right now, I'd have gone to the GP ages ago and just stayed home to recover for a few days. But in this case, I don't know if this is normal or not. It feels silly to go to the doctor only to be told "this is just how it is."

I can imagine pregnancy symptoms get worse week by week in the first trimester, but can you still get genuinely sick despite being pregnant?

How did you know when something was more than just normal pregnancy?

I got the flu once during my first pregnancy. Cold symptoms, fever, diarrhea – everything came with it. Just being sick during pregnancy can happen too, of course. I don't know exactly what you're experiencing, but going to the doctor can't hurt, even if they just tell you it's normal pregnancy stuff. Doctors often also ask back when you ask what it could be, so they're pretty vague

MamaN. Yeah, you've got a point there

The problem is that I have stomach pain, but not around the uterus or hips, but really around my stomach and intestines. At my place, they're running around with intestinal inflammation, so maybe it's something like that? Anyway, it's already better today than yesterday, so whatever it is, it'll heal.

But then I wonder if that could do any harm?

This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 9 weeks along, so still in the risk zone. But I don't want to wear out my midwife's patience over every little thing I feel

I just find it really hard right now to tell whether I'm actually sick or if it's due to the pregnancy. It's all so new to me, and you feel something different every day

You can always check if you have a fever; that's not a pregnancy-related issue.
