Positive tests after period

Hi!
Can someone help me because I'm going crazy right now..
I stopped the pill and after 5 days had a bleed. Exactly 28 days later I got another bleed while I had all the pregnancy symptoms, but the tests were negative.
Now I started with ovulation tests on Monday and they were bright positive, stronger than the test line.
The next day this was also the case and yesterday too. Because I suspect that I can't have ovulation for 3 days I did a pregnancy test (about 3 of them) and they were all positive! Had blood drawn and HCG was 41, the doctor said I'm 3 weeks pregnant.
I don't understand any of it because 14 days ago I had my period and then the pregnancy test was negative.
So my GP wished me congratulations, and sent the results to my gynecologist but she thinks it's a miscarriage. I have to get HCG measured every 2 days.
Now I'm completely confused.. am I pregnant or not?

I think it could go either way. Let your body do its thing and wait and see.

    Thanks for your reply, Petrapj!
But if I were pregnant, it would feel weird that I got my 'periods' (?)
I did read something about pseudo menstruation, where your HCG level is very low, or you had a late ovulation, so your body thinks there was no fertilization and menstruates, but you turn out to be pregnant anyway. Anyone have experience with this?

It's possible that you were already pregnant but had a miscarriage (due to bleeding). It could also be that you just got your period while pregnant. The GP is sure about the pregnancy, but the OB-GYN isn't completely sure. The OB-GYN is probably waiting things out due to the bleeding you had, I guess.

Did the GP mean 7 weeks pregnant when they said 3 weeks? That would mean you were actually 5 weeks pregnant (2 weeks ago) but still had a negative test. Bleeding can also happen in early pregnancy. (I had that during my pregnancy too.) But I completely understand that you're feeling a bit confused. Let us know how it goes?

No idea what the GP means by 3 weeks.. HCG was 41 and the Clearblue test said 1-2 weeks pregnant. How many weeks would I be then?
Also no clue when ovulation and implantation were. It was the first month I stopped the pill (had to take the pill for 5 months after a D&C).
I did another pregnancy test this morning and it was darker.. so I assume I should take this as faintly positive? I want to show you the photo but I can't get it to upload.
Thanks for your replies! Monday appointment with the GP to get blood drawn, so we'll wait until then.
In the meantime I'll keep doing pregnancy tests and hope they stay positive

Hope you can see the photo now?!

The test looks pretty positive!! I'm waiting with you, on the edge of my seat.
(By the way, don't waste 100% of your money on testing here; if you've had a miscarriage, the HCG hormone can still linger in your blood, so it's a waste of money.) I'd just wait until Monday, then you'll know for sure if the HCG hormone keeps rising!
    I'm rooting for you!

That's so sweet of you! Yeah, it's all exciting but also nerve-wracking
So, conception was 2 weeks ago.. that's possible, since we also 'sparked' it . But 4 days later I got my 'period', tested negative, so it's really weird.
I did drink, though, since I thought I had my period.. so I really hope this won't affect the development..
How far along are you, Petrapj?

I was also wondering... if conception happened 4 days before my period, will my uterine lining be thick enough for implantation? Or has implantation already occurred?
  10. Petrapj #11

Yeah, I totally relate to that. I had two miscarriages before, so every time it’s such a nerve-wracking moment!
Two weeks ago you were actually at your most fertile, so it’s quite possible you guys had some good “sports”.. Did you get your period or just lose some blood 4 days after sex?
Ah, I see. I don’t think it can hurt now since the baby isn’t drinking or eating from you yet, but I wouldn’t take the risk and stop drinking (well, at least not much more).
I’m already 23 weeks pregnant, so I’m quite far along!

I had bleeding for 5 days, so I assumed it was my period. That’s why I was so shocked when the tests came back positive. No idea how this could happen.. late ovulation and my body not realizing the egg was fertilized yet? But then my uterine lining should be super thin..
Getting crazy with all these speculations!
  12. Petrapj #13

It happens that people still get their period after conception, so that could be possible! I'm rooting for you, of course, but I'd say take it easy and wait a bit before getting too positive.
How long have you been trying to get pregnant so far?

In November, we were pregnant for the first time (unexpectedly). After 8 weeks, I contracted a CMV infection and decided to end the pregnancy. Then I had to take the pill for 5 months and now I'm trying again. It's the first month after stopping the pill, so it could be quick.. But always having to wait and be patient to then be able to be disappointed.. Really not for me!

All 23 weeks, super!! Is it also the first baby?
  14. Petrapj #15

Okay.. that's a brave decision. It would be quick, indeed, but quick doesn't mean impossible! I was pregnant right after stopping the pill. I also thought that was almost impossible. That waiting and having patience is indeed a whole different thing. Sometimes you really start to get on your own nerves, but believe me.. it doesn't help! Hope everything is okay for you, exciting!

Yes, I hope you get to experience it too. The best feeling there is (despite the discomforts) . It's also my first baby, yes. Exciting all around!

Hi! Just went to the doctor to get blood drawn... I can call at 6 pm.
I also had quite a bit of pain in my lower abdomen and a hard belly. I thought it might be pregnancy symptoms, but it turns out I have a bladder infection (or that's what she thinks). She also mentioned the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, but didn't want to go into detail about that.
So besides fatigue and dizziness, I don't have any other symptoms. I'm not really seeing this in a positive light.
The doctor said hCG should be at least 200.
    Still 5 hours to go...
  16. Bar #17

HCG was 141, they said to expect it 4 days later.
I don't have a bladder infection, so the hard belly and pain must be from the pregnancy.
Yesterday the pain was really extreme with some brown discharge.. also today a lot of pain in the lower right abdomen.
Thursday I have an appointment with the OB-GYN to see what's going on. They're no longer talking about a miscarriage. But now I'm worried about an ectopic pregnancy.
Still no other symptoms except a lot of pain in my lower abdomen..

Bar, if you're really in a lot of pain, I wouldn't wait until Thursday to make an appointment. If it's actually an ectopic pregnancy, your fallopian tube could even rupture. With something like this, you really shouldn't take a wait-and-see approach but should stand your ground.

    Lots of love, Jenny

    Wow, that sounds exciting!
I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks for your replies! Yeah, I really don't know what to think anymore..
After my curettage in December, I had pain to put it mildly, so I can't really compare it to those cramps, but it is more severe than period cramps and also constant. Could this be a pregnancy symptom? The brown discharge also makes me doubt.. is that normal too?
I'm going to the GP again tomorrow to get my HCG levels tested, and on Thursday it's the gynae.
Does anyone have experience with an ectopic pregnancy?
