Introducing myself and losing my egg

Hello dear lurkers,

I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself and share something I (still) can't tell everyone.

I'm Essie, just 26 years old, and I just found out I'm 5 (almost 6) weeks pregnant with my first. I find it so exciting and totally unexpected. On May 23rd, I have my first appointment with the midwife for an intake at 8 weeks. My boyfriend, whom I've been with for almost 2 years, is also very happy about it and says he fully supports me. My sister and brother also fully support me.

I love being able to share this here, but I'm really scared to tell my parents. I still live at home, and my boyfriend lives on his own. I come from a religious family. My family has always expected me to get married before having children. I've always wanted to get married on my own terms, and my boyfriend thinks it's something beautiful too. I just want to say that I'd love to surprise them both with my boyfriend, with an ultrasound and baby socks (if everything goes well in the coming weeks), about our pregnancy.

Besides being very happy, I'm also stressing because I'm so scared of my parents' and family's reaction. And I don't want to stress too much because that can affect the pregnancy, right..?

Love, Essie

Addition: besides that, my mom proudly told everyone what a fun new job I have. I started at my new workplace last month. That's another source of uncertainty. I feel like once people at work, and especially family, find out I'm pregnant, I'll come across as reckless (it wasn't planned)..
    Love, Essie again

    Hi essielove,
First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!!! It's great that you have people around you who are happy for you too.
I understand it's hard to tell, and maybe it's wise to mention that when you're telling your parents/family. You can also mention this at work. I don't think they can just fire you because you're pregnant. Maybe the reactions won't be as bad as you think, and they'll all be super happy about your pregnancy. It could also be that their initial reactions aren't so joyful, but they'll need some time to get used to the idea. You'll only find out once you've told them. I wish you lots of strength!!
