Hi,

I have a quick question: I have a 7-month-old son. He still needs a night feed... He has slept through the night a few times, but for some reason, it only happens sporadically every few weeks...

He always gets a bath at 6:30 PM, and then I sing him a lullaby while giving him a bottle in his room. After that, I put him in his crib, and he usually falls asleep right away... Then he sleeps for about 7 to 8 hours straight (sometimes only 5 hours), which is pretty impressive, but since he's in bed by 7 PM, he wakes up in the middle of the night for a feed (usually between 1:00 AM and 2:30 AM, and after his bottle, he chats for another half hour in his crib before falling back asleep). Since I have to go to work and get out of bed at 5:30 AM, these broken nights are becoming a bit tiring for me...

A few colleagues of mine (also moms) suggested that I keep our current schedule but give him an extra bottle around 10:00 PM, put him back in his crib, and let him start his long sleep so he wakes up for me instead of keeping me up in the middle of the night

My question is whether it's okay to suddenly change his routine now...
Has anyone here experienced this???

Greetings

No worries. Their routine will change even more often. The only thing you're doing now is giving the 1 AM bottle a bit earlier. You can also do it gradually. For example, give it at midnight for 2-3 nights, then at 11 PM for another 2-3 nights, and then at 10 PM if that feels comfortable. You'll also be able to see if you notice a difference in sleeping through the night.
