First time at the gynecologist

Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking about something and I’m wondering how you all experienced it.
I’m 24 years old and just got my period in round 10. I was already thinking about giving my GP a call just to ask what now... but this is really quite a nerve-wracking thing for me; I’m quite shy and reserved. I wouldn’t dare lie naked in front of the GP for anything in the world. Sounds incredibly silly, of course, but it’s a real nightmare for me that someone with a big light is looking between my legs. (Yes, it’ll also have to happen during childbirth, but in my head it feels different.) I also wonder how it all works when you have to go to the gynecologist for the first time? I hope there are women who can explain to me what actually happens.
Lots of love and hoping for answers.

Be a bit patient until people with experience also start responding. My GP didn't do much. I went with my husband, we told our story, and got a referral to the fertility clinic. There, you first have a talk with the gynecologist. They do blood tests, your partner probably has to hand in a sample to check the quality. And maybe they'll look at your eggs via an internal ultrasound. And yes, unfortunately, you'll have to lie in the chair with your legs spread wide. And the first time that feels scary and weird. But if you think about how the person doing the exam won't have any idea what you look like down there once you've pulled your pants back up, you'll see it's not that bad. Just don't overthink it. After that, it depends on the tests.

    It’s a bit awkward.
First, they just chat about how you’re doing and stuff. Then they do an ultrasound. Before 12 weeks, it’s usually an internal ultrasound. My gynecologist has one of those chairs with stirrups, while the midwife just has a regular bed. So you take off your pants and underwear, and then they do the ultrasound. It’s not really unpleasant. At first, it doesn’t take very long either. As you get further along in your pregnancy, I couldn’t say because I’m only 9+5 weeks myself.
