Thalitha, may I ask what kind of help he's getting? My son is also playing catch-up with talking according to the book. We've agreed with CB to look into further options in April if there's no improvement. So I'm quite curious..haha

Eikeltje, congratulations! Does your friend/partner know yet? It'll definitely be a shock if you didn't expect it..but as you said, it's welcome..enjoy it!

    Hi sil85

My partner is now in the loop and is totally excited. He had his own suspicions... Haha.

Sil85, that's so nice to read that you also have a little boy from October 2014 and are now 5 weeks pregnant. Me too! How coincidental We're also only going to announce it after the first ultrasound, which I luckily already had on Feb 23. I'll be 6 weeks and 6 days then.

Maro91, congratulations, that's so funny, nice! You already had your first ultrasound so quickly...

Sweetie, that's great... so don't stress and enjoy it.

    Hey eikeltje and Maro!
Congratulations on your pregnancies too! Definitely enjoy it. It's super nice that we can chat a bit about the same stages of pregnancy in the coming time!

And Sil, Milan only started saying his first words when he was 2. We never put extra pressure on him because we always had the mindset of; "every child has their own pace".
That mindset is normally good but eventually he felt misunderstood and couldn't keep up with his peers.
And he quickly became frustrated and angry.
That was the point for us where we called in extra help.

So he now has speech therapy once a week and goes to the toddler playgroup four half-days.
Speech therapy is covered by my health insurance.
(Children under 18 get care covered) and the extra 2 days at the psz are covered by our municipality.

We always do half an hour of playful exercises with the speech therapist.
We also get exercises to take home in his folder that we play together with him. Never for long.
    But regularly.
We are now mainly practicing sound combinations like "st" (stip, steen, stap, etc.) he can repeat it correctly, but he just hasn't stored the sounds and vowels in his brain yet, which makes him forget to pronounce them in his sentences.
But with the extra exercises, that will come right.
Plus I get lots of nice tips on how to read aloud and how best to chat with him.

We have a meeting once every half year together with his teacher, speech therapist, and the nurse from the consultation bureau.
To see how he is progressing and if anything else is needed.
So far, we and Milan are very satisfied with how it's going.
We also notice on him that his frustration moments occur significantly less.

Now that it's going better, we're going to do potty training again next summer. Because he didn't really feel like it in the past few times. Stubborn thing. Haha. Are your little ones already potty trained? And how did you manage that?

    Talitha, thanks for your reply.
My son does say more, but not nearly as much as other kids his age. And we also feel like every child develops at their own pace. My husband was also late with talking... On top of that, my son regularly gets ear infections whenever the 1st of the month comes around, so that could indicate he might not be hearing things properly. From April onwards, we'll definitely look into it further if there's no progress. I can totally relate to that frustration if we don't understand him. Luckily, he can make himself very clear in other ways. But oh, that little pout of his when we don't get it really gets to me.

    My son isn't potty-trained yet.
I have to say we haven't done much with it yet since he's not even 2.5 years old... We want to start in spring/summer... nice to let him run around with bare bottom:-)

Sil and Talitha, both of my kids have a TOS. In other words, a language development disorder.
Maybe informative for you to check out the website www.kentalis.nl
Maybe also some handy tips and tricks..

    Hi ladies,
I'm new here and also just in the happy anticipation of our first. I'm Joyce, 38 years old, and live on Curaçao. After a (unwanted) childless marriage of 16 years, that came to an end in 2015. Early last year, I met my current boyfriend. He's a bit younger than me and has a strong desire for children. My sadness about being childless was still very great, so the decision to start a family anyway was made quickly, despite my age and the early stage of our relationship. Last Saturday, I took a positive test: I could shout it from the rooftops!! My biggest wish and dream is finally coming true: I'm going to be a mom . I'm only 5 weeks along now, so we're keeping it quiet for a little while. Although I'm bursting to make my parents overjoyed with the news that they'll still become grandparents!
Congratulations to my fellow almost-moms :-)

Hi Joyce, of course, congratulations! It's lovely that you're finally going to be a mom. I wish you a carefree pregnancy!
  10. Talitha #30

    You're welcome, Sil.
    They will come around.
Just give them a little nudge in the right direction now and then.

And Len, I'll go through the info. Thanks! How old are your kids and at what age did you realize it?

@Joyce, congratulations!! I believe you're absolutely overjoyed. Wishing you all the best and enjoy it!!

My son started showing signs early on; I noticed he was lagging a bit behind other kids his age. We went through the medical system starting from his second year because he wouldn't talk. They initially thought he had a hearing impairment. Later, it turned out that external sounds were arriving at his brain delayed, which made him feel very insecure about everything.

With my daughter, I noticed in third grade that she completely checked out at school. She was a total chatterbox but had no idea what was going on at school. The material was too much and too difficult. Now she's in special education for kids with language and hearing issues. She's almost 12 now and doing super well.

My son has grown so much at the special school that he's now integrated into regular education.

They're learning to cope with it, and I believe they'll largely overcome these challenges over time.

Hi everyone. It's nice to read that there are so many pregnant women here :-) I got a positive test on February 15th and didn't believe it at first either. I still sometimes have the thought, is it really real? But the pregnancy test was definitely very positive. I'm not feeling nauseous, but I do have quite a bit of back pain. I think I'm in my 6th week now. I've talked about it with my partner... whether or not to tell our parents? On one hand, I really want to tell them, but on the other hand, I'd like to see the ultrasound first for confirmation; is it really real?!.. tricky haha, I really didn't expect to feel this unsure, because generally I'm never unsure!
