sex after pregnancy

Good afternoon ladies,

I’m a young woman pregnant with my first baby. I’ve always been very happy with my body, etc., and so is my husband. But now that my body is changing so much, I suddenly wonder if it will ever go back to how it was before the birth? And when can you have sex again after giving birth, and what kind of lasting damage can childbirth cause to your genitals? I hope someone can tell me more about this.

It depends on how your birth goes. Usually, there's hardly any lasting damage. After all, a woman is made to get pregnant more often, so after giving birth, sex should still be possible. There are plenty of couples who (especially if you weren't cut or torn) start having sex again quite soon after the birth. It's advised to wait until the postpartum bleeding has stopped, due to the risk of infection. It's also about what feels comfortable for you. With my first, I had a C-section and I waited until the wound was healed because I didn't feel comfortable earlier due to wound pain—that was about 6 weeks. With my second, I had a small tear and I waited until the stitches had fallen out before I told my husband he had the green light if he felt like it. However, it didn't happen much due to exhaustion on both sides .

The feeling during sex, by the way, wasn't different for me compared to before my births.
