newborn photography

Just a curious question; everywhere you see newborn photos popping up, courses where a baby is 'borrowed' and 4 or 5 cameras are pointed at it.
Am I the only one who doesn't find this at all appealing? That hassle with such a young baby, putting it in poses that are the same every time so that almost only the mother can still tell the babies apart from the photos?
I only read running stories but can hardly imagine that no one else finds it very strange and hype...

    No one?...

You do get some nice photos of your baby from it..

But that can also happen around 5 or 6 months, when you have a beautiful, real laugh and can see a bit of 'personality' coming through, or am I seeing that wrong?

You're not seeing it wrong, you just see it that way, that's your opinion.
A newborn sleeps a lot so it's easy to take photos of, and after a few months they look completely different again. I'd like both.

Yeah, you're not the only one, Ellen. Personally, I don't feel like it either so soon after the birth. I'd really rather just be alone with my baby and little family.
I think a baby needs a lot of peace and quiet in the first weeks and months, and I find things like taking photos
    quite stressful for a baby.
But anyway, everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course

The shoot is only done after a bath and feeding so the baby sleeps, and usually in your own home so you don't have to travel with the baby after a studio session.
It's all done this way and the baby's well-being comes first; if the baby gets restless, they have to stop immediately.

I think it's actually good to do it so soon after birth because the baby won't notice much of it. A 6-month-old baby probably won't sit still for that long, I think haha.

I'm lucky that my sister is a photographer, so she did this for us. For us, it was just before her 4 weeks because she was born too early and we didn't want to burden her too soon. I'm super happy with the photos! At 9 weeks, we did another photoshoot and were able to take some nice family photos. I also take pictures of our girl every day at home, but you can't really compare those...
