Pregnant or period?

Hi everyone,

I have a 16-year-old friend who stopped taking the pill about three months ago because the extra hormones were driving her crazy. We always use protection, but now she was a week late and started showing symptoms. She has a fever of 38.2°C, headaches, stomach pain, dizziness when standing up, and her breasts have also grown. We took a test that was still completely sealed but had been sitting in my backpack for almost half a year (stored away properly) with an expiry date of 2017. The test was negative, so not pregnant.

She now has bleeding, but it's very heavy, and she still has a fever and larger breasts. She's always very afraid to go to the doctor and says I shouldn't worry so much, but I feel responsible and I'm getting a bit nauseous from the stress.

What do you think, am I worrying unnecessarily? She has indeed had a lot of stress, which can delay her period, and a week isn't that long. We used protection and the test was negative. But do breasts really just grow like that? And then there's the fever and the heavy bleeding.

I'm curious what you all think...

Thanks in advance!

Best,
A concerned friend

If the test says negative, the chance she's pregnant is small. And after stopping the pill, your period can become heavier. Wonder if the fever is related to this or stands on its own. Bigger breasts can be because they're tense around the period. Could also be an infection in the breasts or uterus, so it's never wrong to have a doctor check it out.
